Good Afternoon, MUMC Friends!

How was your week? We're entering the last few weeks of summer, so I hope you're out there enjoying it!

First, a few small things this week:

1. Remember to sign up for Altar Flower dedications at the Welcome Desk!

2. We are in need of volunteers to help run the slides during the 9:45 service! If you are interested, or want to know more, please contact myself or Letty Roosa.

3. If you have any pictures of any Mason UMC group, ministry, event, etc. from the past year, please let me know!

In case you weren't at church last week, this Sunday marks the first of our 4-week sermon series titled "Just Walk Across the Room." Based on Bill Hybels's book, we are learning how 10 steps, and 100 words may be enough to change someone's life. Pastor Lisa will be telling us a very cool story about this during her sermon, so if you can't make it to church this weekend, be sure to read or watch her sermon sometime next week! Watch for it to be uploaded to our website under "More --> Media"

And just for fun, watch this to get ready for the series!

The Mission Has a Church

"Many times we wrongly assume that the primary activity of God is in the church, rather than recognizing that God's primary activity is in the world, and the church is God's instrument sent into the world to participate in God's redemptive mission." (misisonalchurchnetwork.com)

The internet, especially as experienced on Facebook, is full of articles and comments reflecting person's ideas to bring renewal to the United Methodist Church.  There are many ideas.  There is also one thing they have in common- the ideas often focus on the turnaround of the loss of people and financial resources.

That is discouraging to me.

Do you want to join an exciting and motivated team of women doing great things at Mason UMC, and for our community and around the world? Do you like planning social events, doing fundraising, and spending time with women from all generations?

Mason UMW (United Methodist Women) is looking to include all women who attend Mason UMC to our team to help work at the Once & Again Kid's Sale (Sept. 21) and to help plan events for the entire UMW year. Help wanted in the areas of Publicity and Hospitality for the sale. During the rest of the year, help needed planning the Christmas Dinner, Secret Pal and yearly Women's Retreat. If you are interested in taking a more active role in any of these events, please contact Kelly Ralston, UMW President ([email protected]) or Heather McCracken, UMW Vice-President ([email protected]).

MOMSnext

Are you the mom of a first grader through twelve grade? Are you looking to connect with other moms who are going through this season of mothering? If you answered yes to both questions then MOMSnext is for you!

Starting in September at Mason UMC, we will begin meeting on the 1st Tuesday of the month from 9:30-11:00am in Rooms 9 and 11. If you need childcare for younger siblings it will be provided. Our theme for the upcoming MOMSnext year is "A Beautiful Mess - Embracing our story." Based on Ephesians 2:10, we are God's Masterpiece, we are anew in Jesus, and can do anything through him. We will learn to embrace that as we learn about the messiness of Finances, Organization, Internet/Technology issues, Marriage and much more. Won't you join us?

Registration forms are located in the old narthex or online at Masonumc.org. Please pick one up today. Registration will be open until July 30. Cost to join is only $25. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Kelly Ralston, MOMSnext Coordinator at [email protected] or 754-8878

Festival of Sharing 2013

Summer is here - time for vacation, swimming, playing in the sun! What fun! It's also the season of the year when we ask you to bring school supplies and health kit items. For those of you new to this project, we sew school bags and fill them with requested items for children all over the world. Health kits are sent to many parts of the USA and the world. Both types of kits are particularly needed this year due to the many disasters where families have lost everything. Will you help us again this year? Our goal is 50 school bags and 75 health Kits. We have volunteers to sew the bags - please help us fill them.

There will be a box in the Narthex marked "FESTIVAL OF  SHARING" where you may place these items. If you would rather contribute money, please make check payable to MUMC and on the memo line mark Festival of Sharing.

The box will be available through August so you may want to wait until school supplies go on sale. When we have collected school supplies and bags, the children will help fill them.

Please watch for the reminder insert in the bulletin for items needed.
