The Christmas Gift
Not just a Western tradition, Christmas is celebrated throughout much of the world. Though attempts have been made to secularize this "happy holiday," it remains unalterable associated with Him whose birthday it acknowledges. The familiar slogan, "Jesus is the Reason for the Season," is implicit in the name by which this season is known when we recognize that Jesus is the Christ.
Christmas is a thoroughly Christian and explicitly religious holiday. Christ, of course, is the New Testament name for the Messiah promised repeatedly in the Old Testament of the Bible. Mass is the Christian festival that celebrates the incarnation of Christ both in history and at the festival service itself. Hence, the name Christmas connotes the Christ coming among us.
The good news of Christmas is not just that Christ came among us, but that He came among us FOR US. The name Jesus means, "The Lord Saves," and the angel announcing His divine conception to Joseph declared that "He will save His people from their sins" (Matthew 1: 22). Our sins alienate us from God, but Jesus reconciles us to the Father by His bloody self-sacrifice on the cross of Calvary.
What could be a better gift? God, who is justly angry over sin, is now the friend of sinners through the gift of His own Son. Our seasonal exchange of gifts serves to remind us of the greatest gift of all - the gift of God's Son whose incarnation is the perfect expression of God's good will toward men.
Have a Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year.

A Semester-End Plea
|
Parents, we would like to end the semester with all accounts current, so please take a moment to check your school financial account. Please note that if your account for Before-School or After-School care is not current on or before January 6, you will need to make other arrangements for childcare outside of the 8:00 am to 3:30 pm school hours. We cannot pay your child's care-givers if you do not pay us. If, however, you need to make payment arrangements, please contact the MLS business office with your plan to come current as soon as possible. You can ask for Dawn at 713-782-4022 or email Pastor Heine at [email protected].

A Security Reminder
|
Parents, please make it practice to always enter and exit through the School Office (and not through the gym) after 8:00 am. This is a security matter. If you exit through the north doors or the gym doors, it is possible for unauthorized individuals to slip into the building before the doors close behind you. PLEASE HELP US KEEP YOUR CHILDREN SAFE.

Flu Season Has Arrived |
We have had several diagnosed cases of flu here at MLS - students and teachers alike. We are asking that you keep your child at home if he/she has a fever or has flu-like symptoms (cough, sore throat, aches, fever, chills, vomiting, etc). We would like to keep our children and staff as healthy as possible. Thank you for helping us!

Pajama Day - Easter Seals
|
Memorial's Pajama Day was a huge success! We presented $1390.00 plus 89 pairs of pajamas to Easter Seals. Kelly Klein, the Development Director of Easter Seals, Greater Houston, came to school opening to thank Memorial students and staff for their support and to tell us about some of the many things that Easter Seals does. Ms. Klein was impressed with our Pajama Day turnout and very thankful for our donations.
