The best performances divide the market. Trying to please everyone often results in pleasing no one, so a touch of vehement polarization is a sign you're onto something.

All three push us into one of two opposing camps: Love 'em or hate 'em.
Unexpectedly, 84 Lumber joined this trio during the Super Bowl with an ad depicting a Hispanic mother/daughter journey to the U.S.
At the end of the spot, the pair tearfully push open a big, beautiful wooden door and is bathed in sunlight. Transitioning to the bed of a pickup truck filled with building materials and tools, the ad closes with the line: "The will to succeed is always welcome here."
The ad broke the internet, along with 84's website. While 84 Lumber was an unexpected messenger, this topic is relevant for a host of reasons.

Where Dealers Beat the Big Boxes...Most Times...

We all know the big boxes are trying harder than ever to lure more pros to their stores, so how do LBM and the boxes compare these days in terms of service? Few firms try harder to know the answer than The Farnsworth Group of Indianapolis. In a recent presentation to dealers from Indiana and Michigan, senior partner Jim Robisch compiled the results of several surveys of pros from around the country in which Farnsworth asked pros to rate dealers and big boxes on key services. His conclusion: The best dealers generally do better than the big boxes, but the worst dealers get lower scores than the warehouse home improvement stores.

The Consumer Price Index increased 0.6 percent in January on a seasonally adjusted basis, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Over the last 12 months, the all items index rose 2.5 percent before seasonal adjustment. The January increase was the largest seasonally adjusted all items increase since February 2013. A sharp rise in the gasoline index accounted for nearly half the increase, and advances in the indexes for shelter, apparel, and new vehicles also were major contributors.
