SIGN NEW PETITION FOR NEXT CRUCIAL STEP FOR CA SB1272-THE OVERTURN CITIZENS UNITED ACT

After the near unanimous vote in the CA Senate Elections & Constitutional Amendments Committee, we are very close to putting SB1272, The Overturn Citizens United Act, on the November Ballot. But we cannot afford to lose even the slightest bit of momentum. Please, please, submit this completely NEW one click action page, to do the same thing now in the CA Senate Appropriations Committee.

Rules Committee Chair, Sen. Chuck Schumer, announced that SJ Res 19 will receive a vote in the US Senate THIS YEAR!

Senators have begun to coalesce around a particular constitutional amendment proposal to undo the harm of Court decisions like Citizens United and McCutcheon. The proposal is Senate Joint Resolution 19 by Senator Tom Udall

Please sign our petition to Congress here, right now, urging passage of SJ Res 19.
This is a moment we've been working towards since the very day the Citizens United decision was handed down in 2010.

MAY DAY! MAY DAY! LAWRENCE LESSIG LAUNCHES SUPER PAC TO END SUPER PACS

Harvard professor and activist, Lawrence Lessig, says it's time to "pay the ransom" to take American democracy back from the moneyed interests he says hold it hostage. If you can't beat them, join them. Then take them down from the inside. That's the basic idea behind a super PAC launched on Thursday, May 1, that wants to destroy super PACs for good. The Mayday PAC, as it's called, seeks to raise enough money to sway five House elections in 2014 and elect representatives who have committed to pressing for serious reform of the campaign finance system.

Go to http://time.com/84556/lawrence-lessig-superpac/ to see the video and go to https://mayone.us/ to find out more and get involved. They received $350,000 in their first two days so the servers are being upgraded to help the traffic. Join all of us with a donation that fits you. If not now, when?

CALIFORNIA MARCH FOR DEMOCRACY - MARCHING FROM LA TO SACRAMENTO TO END CORRUPTION- 480 MILES - 37 DAYS - 1 MISSION - MAY 17-JUNE 22

This important, challenging and exciting project is being initiated by 99Rise, an international organization dedicated to getting big money out of politics. Lawrence Lessig and Dolores Huerta among many others are committed to marching with them and a wide variety of organizations are getting on board as endorsers and promoters. They will deliver a simple demand to the leaders of our nation's biggest state: publicly acknowledge the crisis of corruption and take immediate action to end it.

The organizers of the March need all of us, whether to join in the March for a few miles or more, donate money, food, help lodging on their route, have your organization endorse the project and spread the word. We have worked with the Northern CA contingent who are all 20 somethings and their drive and inclusive attitude are inspiring. Check them out at www.marchfordemocracy.org and find a way you can help.

RECENT SUCCESSES & UPCOMING ACTIONS

WE JOINED WITH SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA'S MOVI COALITION TO PROMOTE SB 1272

We met with Senator Mark DeSaulnier to enlist him as a co-author which he did. We met with Assemblywoman Joan Buchanan to enlist her support which is in the works. We spread the word about a petition supporting 1272 which ultimately drew 19,000 signatures that were handed to the Senate Committee on Tuesday, April 15 which many of us attended and much more. We also helped promote and attend MOVI'S 28th Amendment Roadshow at UC Faculty Club which was a standing room only successful event. And we had fun.

2. We are planning a panel at DVC on money-in-politics for the fall

due to a request by DVC to repeat our recent panel at DVC. We are also approaching other colleges including Chabot.

3. Our Speakers Bureau had its first presentation on the April 21st. Please send in requests for speakers.
