NESTMA Presents Awards at Annual Meeting
Congratulations to the individuals listed below who were recognized at NESTMA’s Annual Meeting held on March 7, 2018 in Providence, RI. Here are excerpts from comments made that day by Awards Committee Chair, Kim Britton:
Sports Turf Manager of the Year – Michael Buras, CSFM
Mike is the Director of Grounds at Longwood Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill, MA and is a longtime, devoted member of NESTMA. He was on the board for many years and served as president for
3 years beginning in 2010. He currently serves as a Trustee for the NESTMA Board. Mike is a past president of the New England Regional Turfgrass Foundation (he still serves on that board as NESTMA’s representative) and is a trusted advisor on many issues around the association.
Commercial Partner of the Year – Scott Mackintosh
Scott is co-owner of Atlantic Golf and Turf in Turner Falls, MA. The company was established in 2010 and is a supplier of chemicals, fertilizers, ISTRC Soil Tests and agronomic consulting services to the New England region. He is a certified agronomist with the American Society of Agronomy who uses his knowledge on a daily basis to help his clients. He is a trusted partner for many sports turf managers across the region. NESTMA is grateful to Scott and Atlantic Golf and Turf for their commitment to our industry.
Student Scholarship Award – Garrett Maxey
Garrett is a graduate student of Dr. Jason Henderson of the University of Connecticut. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Missouri and was chosen as one of five interns from across the country for the Boston Red Sox in 2013. His current research is focused on management of sports field using pesticide-free approaches. He tells us that he wants, “ to become a leader in this industry by exhibiting the best management practices that produce the safest and highest quality playing surfaces for athletes.”
Welcome NESTMA Management Team
In March, the NESTMA Trustees and Board of Directors hired M.V. Wood Company (MVWC) as the association’s new management firm. With an exclusive focus on green industry trade associations in New England, MVWC is an award-winning association management firm with a proven 30-year track record of increasing membership, improving communication, promoting participation, building awareness, and streamlining systems.

“The MVWC team is the best choice from a group of highly qualified candidates,” said Ben Polimer, NESTMA’s President Elect who led the search process. “They have the industry-knowledge and experience we were looking for and, most importantly, will help advance our association’s strategic growth plan. We’re delighted to be working with them and have already hit the ground running.”
