All Things New by Janelle Thompson

This week in the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin-ELCA

Week of June 9, 2013

All Things New

We are the church whose unity is in Jesus Christ, who gathers us around word and water, wine and bread.

Because we are grounded in God's love and forgiveness, we are equipped to live and serve here and now, in the world, with all its complexities, tensions and ambiguities. We have the courage to explore the world as saints and sinners, knowing we will never take God somewhere God has not already been.

We Walk Together

Rev. Rick Hoyme

From our bishop-elect, Rev. Rick Hoyme

As I write this, I am 10 days into this sorta kinda bishop thing.

Although I will continue to serve the wonderful people of Central Lutheran in Chippewa Falls until the end of the month, I have discovered the learning curve is just a little steep.

I do want all of you in our synod to know what an amazing synod staff you have, and how hard they have worked to serve you in the last few months through the staff transitions and the departure of Bishop Pederson. They have gently been holding my hand through this last week and a half and allowing me to do the hard, but essential work, of saying good bye to my current flock.

I also have been very, very impressed with the staff at our churchwide offices in Chicago. They have been so helpful in guiding me through all of the steps that need to be taken to teach this old dog a few new tricks.

And last, I thank God and I thank you for the trust that has been placed in my call to this new ministry. The emails, texts, cards, letters and Facebook messages have numbered in the hundreds. I am trusting that the promises of prayer will be fulfilled, because I am counting on God hearing and answering every last one of them.

Thank you!

Our goal is to have 100% of the congregations in the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin participate in this worthwhile effort.

Pastoral Study Project Grants Available

The Louisville Institute offers pastoral leaders the gift of time and the resources to investigate issues related to Christian life, faith, and ministry. Through its Pastoral Study Project program (PSP), the Institute enables pastoral leaders to bracket daily work routines in order to pursue a pressing and significant question for the life of faith.

Grants of up to $15,000 support independent or collaborative study projects - projects that privilege pastoral perspectives and rhythms and honor grassroots research conducted by skilled clergy. PSP grantees may use a variety of platforms to share what they learn with a wider audience, extending their leadership in ways that can benefit the broader church and culture in North America.
