Dean for Student Services & Enrollment Management

Lisa Lee, MA, became Dean for Student Services & Enrollment Management on July 1 of this year, succeeding Laurence Lowy, DPM, who was Dean for Student Services; Ms. Lee retained her previous role as Dean for Enrollment Management.
   Ms. Lee wanted to keep her role in admissions to remain in contact with students during "their whole lifecycle" here, from initial interviews to orientation, to assisting students with academic and student life  needs such as housing, through events for alumni.

NAP Honor for Khurram H. Khan, DPM
Khurram H. Khan, DPM, Adjunct Professor of Medical Sciences, has been elected to Distinguished Fellowship in the National Academies of Practice (NAP) and the Podiatric Medicine Academy as a Distinguished Practitioner & Fellow. This high honor acknowledges his outstanding achievements and his professional leadership.  He will join other healthcare leaders and practitioners of NAP who are working together as an interdisciplinary force to influence national health policy and legislation, and promote quality healthcare through cooperative advocacy, practice, education and research. He will be inducted at a gala at NAP's Annual Meeting & Forum in April in Baltimore. 
NHEMA Weekend Walks Provides Foot Screenings for the Community

Students, faculty, and FCNY Board members attended the October 10 NHEMA Weekend Walk, a community fair initiated by Jaritza Taveras-Caba, FCNY Board Member and Director of Community Affairs, Manhattan North Management and Desander Más, NYCPM VP of Operations and Development. On a bright and sunny Saturday, FCNY provided foot screenings at two locations on Fifth Avenue between 125
th and 124
th Streets. Aman Safaei Named CIO of NYCPM
Aman Safaei has been named Chief Information Officer of NYCPM, COO Joel Sturm announced in mid-October. In this position, Mr. Safaei will be responsible for all aspects of information technology, web design and content, graphics and media. Mr. Safaei is an information technology professional with over 35 years of experience in creating and managing computer infrastructure, Internet/Intranet applications and cloud-based operational environments for some of the largest organizations in the world. Most recently, Mr. Safaei was the Senior Vice President of Internet Solutions and Mobile Technology for Scientific Games Corporation, for which he managed the development and deployment of sophisticated website for Churchill Downs (home of the Kentucky Derby) and for the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority. Welcome!
Paul Tremblay, MLIS, MA, Named Chief Medical Librarian
Paul Tremblay has been officially appointed the Chief Medical Librarian at NYCPM. In making the announcement, Michael Trepal, DPM ('81), VP for Academic Affairs and Dean, told the NYCPM community that "Paul has served the college admirably during his tenure as Assistant Librarian and we have full confidence in his ability to lead and advance our Medical Library." A search for a new Assistant Librarian to work under Paul is underway.

Patient-Centered Care and Biopsychosocial Model in Podiatric Medicine By Jered Stowers, Joseph Cataldo, Calvin Davis, Harshapradhaa Amithajothi, Anthony Iorio, DPM, MPH, and Peter Barbosa, PhD, presented at the American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Expo, Oct. 31-Nov. 4, 2015, in Chicago.  Harsha Amirthajothi (above, right) observed that the attendees "recognized that patient-centered care and empathy were concepts not promoted enough in podiatry and that this is a topic that should be researched more in the clinical setting." Presenting the poster at the APHA meeting were Jered Stowers (left) and Harsha Amirthajothi, both Class of 2018.

While in Paris on a well-earned vacation, VP of Development and Operations Desander Más toured L'Institut National de Podologie and received a warm welcome. Paul Hershey, DPM ('52)
The late Paul Hershey, DPM ('52) was lauded in a recent issue of PMNews. According to Elliot Udell, DPM ('77), "Dr. Hershey was the first director of podiatry at Long Island Jewish hospital as well as at other institutions. His commitment to 

podiatric medical education, medical ethics, as well as his commitment to his peers, was a model for all of us. I vividly remember that at Nassau County monthly meetings, he always brought in x-rays of complex cases for discussion and everyone learned from him. He will be missed by all who knew him."
Michael J. Trepal DPM ('81), Re-elected at CPME
At the fall meeting of 
the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, Michael J. Trepal, DPM ('81), VP of Academic Affairs and Dean, was re-elected to a third three-year term, and also assumed the position of Vice-Chair of the Council.

Tuesday, November 24, 10:00am to 1:00pm, Catholic Charities Thanksgiving Screening, Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Center in East Harlem, 34 West 134th St., btwn. Lenox & Fifth Avenues, New York, NY 10037. FCNY will provide foot screenings and Catholic Charities will distribute 400 Thanksgiving turkeys to the community.
