NAJA welcomes new board members! The Native American Journalists Association (NAJA) board of directors is pleased to welcome two new board members. Mary Hudetz is a member of the Crow Tribe and an editor on The Associated Press' West Regional Desk in Phoenix, where she files daily spot and breaking news to the news cooperatives state and national wires. In 2010, Hudetz served as a mentor on the NAJA student projects in Minneapolis. She also taught the past two years at AIJI. Robert L. Ortiz, is an enrolled member of the Taos Pueblo Indian Tribe, in Taos Pueblo, NM. Ortiz is currently employed with the 'The Southern Ute Drum' the tribal newspaper of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, in Ignacio, Colorado for 11 years and is the Composition Technician, in charge of production - design and layout of the newspaper. Ortiz also works at the tribal radio station KSUT 91.3 FM hosting a weekly radio show. He has served on the Johnson O'Malley Committee and had served as Chairman and regular board member while with JOM for 7 years. Kiplinger Social Media Fellowship
The 25 journalists selected for the fellowship will spend April 15-20, 2012, on the Ohio State campus in Columbus. They'll be immersed in an intensive, hands-on week of training, focused on using social media to build a following, develop sources and cover their beats. Shop talk includes Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, video, deep Web searches, public records and data journalism.
The Kiplinger Foundation pays for the training as well as a travel stipend, lodging and several meals.
