Concerts in the Park Lineup Unveiled

The City of Newcastle's 2017 Concerts in the Park lineup features a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, a mix of pop and country performers and a tribute to the Eagles. All concerts go from 7-8:30 p.m. at Lake Boren Park. 
Newcastle PD Returns Stolen Jewelry

Newcastle Detective Chris Leyba brought a smile to an Auburn woman's face after he returned two stolen necklaces to her on May 24.

Police  recovered those and more after serving a search warrant on a vehicle May 3.  The department is still looking for the owners of the other stolen items.

King County Council Recognizes a Keeper of Newcastle's History

Metropolitan King County Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn presented Vickie Baima Olson with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Medal of Distinguished Service for her work to share Newcastle history and preserve the Historic Coal Miner's Cemetery. 

The award recognizes those who have gone above and beyond in their efforts to make a difference in communities across King County.

Newcastle Bids Farewell to Longtime Officer

The Newcastle Police Department will say goodbye to one of its longtime officers this June. Master Police Officer Jerry Gilley is set to transfer, ending his 18-year career in Newcastle.

Officer Gilley, known by Jay Gilley to some, has become an integral part of the Newcastle community, and we thank him for his nearly two decades of service.
YMCA to Offer Childcare During Council Town Hall Meeting

The Council Town Hall meeting goes from 6:30-9 p.m. June 26 at The Golf Club at Newcastle.
Eagle Scout Project Enhances CrossTown Trail

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Alexander Bowman led a crew of 19 scouts and eight adults to build out a segment of Newcastle's East CrossTown Trail just past the junction with the access trail to an overlook.

A special thank you to all of the volunteers, Newcastle Trails and numerous Scouts for helping to improve the city's trail system.

Police Chief Presents First Quarter Crime Stats

Burglaries and traffic collisions were down, while larcenies were up during the first three months of 2017.

Newcastle Police Chief Melinda Irvine presented the first quarter crime statistics last month.

Summer Programs at the Newcastle Library

The Newcastle Library's slate of summer programs kicks off this month. Library patrons can look forward to a variety of events this summer, from concerts and author talks to a reading party at Lake Boren Park.

Bear Sightings Reported in Newcastle

As bears emerge from winter dens across the state, state wildlife managers are reminding residents how to avoid possible conflicts with hungry animals looking to scavenge an easy meal.

Reports of bear activity increase across the state during this time of year and Newcastle is no exception. The Department of Fish and Wildlife offers a few tips for living with wildlife:
