Welcome! Rev. Daniel Headrick NDBC New Associate Pastor!
It is our joy to welcome our new Associate Pastor, Rev. Daniel Headrick! After a long interview process, Daniel and his family came this past weekend to meet the congregation. Daniel and his wife, Dr. Jenny Headrick, and their children Mary Frances and Joseph, are moving from Texas and he will be joining our staff in late June. We are excited to have him on board as we continue our ministry in the Atlanta area!

Pastoral Reflection
by James Lamkin "Sibling Rivalry, Stressed Parents, and Anxious Families in the Bible"
Have you noticed that all the families in the Bible are flawed? And not just a little, but flawed, big time! (OK, you may make an exception with Jesus, Mary, and Joseph...but the rest would keep Dr. Phil in business until the end of time.)
Here's a brief Bible walking tour: Adam and Eve's first born son murdered his brother (Cain vs. Abel). Noah gets drunk and naked...in that order. The polygamist patriarchs played favorites with their wives and bred more jealousy than children. The two sons of Abraham shared something in common: their father tried to kill them, Ishmael and Isaac. The mother of Jacob and Esau cheated one son and manipulated the other. Joseph's siblings, his "band of brothers," sold him as a slave, then lied to their daddy that he was dead.
These are just a sampling from the family scrapbook. There are plenty more rapes, revenge, and rivalries where those came from (not to mention, King David).
I always shake my head when preachers talk about the "biblical ideal" of marriage and the family. Counting concubines, that is quite the family tree; and the apple doesn't fall far from it.
Yet, as flawed and fractured as these families are, the Bible's punchline is not about their failures. It is about the faithfulness of God. God never abandons them. Human dysfunctioning does not determine God's functioning.
By default (and their faults) these families grace us through their mess-ups. We read their stories, close our Bibles, and say to each other, "Well, there must be hope for our family, too."
Like we did a few years ago, we will soak in these stories all summer. We may even discover that our family flaws actually qualify us as containers of God's grace.

NDBC Young Adults
A Night at the Ballpark
On Friday night, nine Northside Drivers ventured to SunTrust Park to cheer on the Braves. Despite the long hike we had to make from the parking lot to the stadium, we had a blast. We enjoyed good food, drinks, and company. Thankfully, the long walk to the car allowed us some time to work off all the food we ate. We shared laughter as we cheered on the Braves to a victory over the Washington Nationals. Although we did not stay the whole time, we loved being with one another as we went out into the community. And best of all, we all got a free bobble head, and you can't beat that!
