NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Do you remember the parable about a mustard seed?
Jesus told a story about the tiny seed which grew into a large tree whose branches could shelter many different birds. Our church is much like this metaphor, having grown from a small beginning (charter members) to a larger congregation that serves the needs of many different people. But the tree needs to be cared for -- watered, pruned, etc. -- and that's where all of us have a responsibility. Beginning this month, the nominating committee is offering you the opportunity to nominate members for the Diaconate, Finance Committee and Personnel Committee. In addition, you may volunteer for one or more of our other ministry teams. Forms will be ready for you in the Narthex after worship and on March 12, March 19, March 26, and April 2. We especially invite those of you who are relatively new to the church and might not have participated in a ministry team to volunteer. It's a great way to know other members and build up the work of our congregation. ~Mary Lester

The Associate Pastor Search Committee continues its efforts!
The committee has now reviewed over forty resumes and preformed eight conference call interviews with the most promising candidates. Preparations are now in the works for the top 2-3 candidates to travel to Atlanta at the end of March to conduct formal interviews, give the candidates the opportunity to meet the staff and tour the church facilities. Please join us in our prayerful hope for finding and welcoming an exceptional candidate to work with James in guiding the future work of our church.

JOIN US THIS SUNDAY
Amanda Tyler
Executive Director of
the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty
March 12, 2017, at NDBC
Amanda is brand new at the BJC, having recently followed Brent Walker as the Executive Director. She leads the organization as it upholds the historic Baptist principle of religious liberty, defending the free exercise of religion and protecting against its establishment by government. A native of Austin, Texas, Tyler grew up hearing about the cherished Baptist principles of religious liberty and the separation of church and state as a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. Because she was committed to these principles, Tyler sought out the Baptist Joint Committee when she moved to Washington to attend Georgetown University, and she began volunteering in the office as a student. She will be lecturing at McAfee School of Theology the following week. We welcome her on this day.
Amanda Tyler will give a short presentation,
March 12, 2017, during the Art & Soul,
Sunday School Class.

Young Adults
Growing Young Session 2
March 26, 2017
After a great first session discussing the stereotypes surrounding young adults in church, we now move to unpack the ways a church can start to grow young. Growing Young by the Fuller Youth Institute argues there are six key elements the church needs to emphasize in order to grow young: Keychain leadership, empathy today, Jesus' message, warm relationships, priority everywhere, and best neighbors. All are options that we, as young people, need to think through and find ways to get the church focused on these ideas. Join us Sunday, March 26th at 12:15 PM above the Narthex as we brainstorm ideas that we can work with the church on. If you have any questions, please contact Jeffrey Dunkerley at
jeffrey@northsidedrive.org
. See you there!

Landscapes for the People
~Ren and Helen Davis
This year marks the centennial of the National Park Services, one of our nation's treasures. Though his name is largely unknown, George Alexander Grant was the first chief photographer of the National Park Service. In Ren and Helen Davis' new book, they introduce us to the work and the story of this man who traveled ceaselessly, capturing more than thirty thousand images and documenting a crucial moment when the park system underwent tremendous growth and transformation.

A Word from Jeffrey Dunkerley
On March 26
th, I get the opportunity to preach in worship. I am so grateful for this chance to continue to grow in my ministerial identity. Thank you for encouraging me through this journey. I will be preaching from a familiar Gospel story, the woman at the well. As Jesus encounters a Samaritan woman, like we encounter people from different cultures around us, there are things to learn. In the midst of Lent and with Easter fast approaching, how can we apply this to our lives? How do we follow Jesus' example? Perhaps it starts with not judging others. Seems simple, right? Not judging requires more action than we might think. I hope you can join us in worship!

At the Table
Don't want to get up before 9 AM? Join this class of young singles and couples in their 20s and 30s at the big table in the balcony of the Narthex after the worship service in an informal setting for snacks and coffee. We will gather around the table Sunday, March 26th, to briefly examine the lectionary texts, deconstruct the sermon of the day, and fellowship together.

NDBC Men's Ensemble to Sing Sunday, April 30, 2017
Men, do you miss singing, but are unable to make weekly choir rehearsals? We have an opportunity for you. A new men's ensemble has been created that will sing two to three times a year with 4-6 rehearsals prior. (You don't have to attend all the rehearsals.)
We will sing during morning worship on Sunday, April 30. There will be 3 rehearsals on Sunday and 3 Thursdays so you have some flexibility. The first Sunday rehearsal will be on April 2 at 10 a.m. in the choir room. The other Sundays will be April 9 and April 23. We will devote the last 30 minutes of our Thursday choir rehearsal to this piece on April 13, April 20, and April 27. If you can come on a Thursday, please join us in the choir room at 8:30 p.m. Enter through the porte-cochere door.
Ladies, watch for our women's ensemble announcement soon.
