Business Recovery Fund
Hurricane Harvey Assistance

BRF

No doubt you have seen the news coverage of the devastation already caused by Hurricane Harvey (with more to come as the rains continue).

For some time, RAC/Regional Relations have not been actively fundraising for the Business Recovery Fund (BRF) as its funds can only be disbursed for federally declared disasters and requests for such assistance have been few. However, we anticipate there will be numerous requests for assistance from the Business Recovery Fund in the aftermath of Harvey.
  • To learn more about the BRF, click  HERE.
  • Online donations can be made to the BRF HERE.
  • Checks (made out to PPDRF) can be sent to:

PPAI Knowledge Communities
New Platform Launched

Promo Connect PPAI has officially launched Promo Connect, a knowledge community platform for the promotional products industry. It does not replace  social and business networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn, but offers a place for industry-specific peer networking; collaboration; sharing of best practices, ideas and concepts; information gathering; and seeking and offering expert opinion and advice.  Read MORE .

Melissa Weber Former Manager of Regional Programs Melissa Weber has moved laterally within PPAI to manage the knowledge communities effective August 21. Melissa will focus on integrating users into the site and identifying valuable content to share with the community as well as for  the next months, continuing to work with the Regional Relations team to insure a seamless transition for LDW and to fulfill the needs of the regional community.
Secure Venue Standard Begun
Meeting/Event Safety

"Nobody thinks it's fun to talk about safety and security, but it matters. If you're prepared and you're focused on it before something like that [9/11 and the anthrax attacks that followed] happens, you're so much better off than being behind the eight ball.... We need to give the planner side and the venue side the tools they need to keep attendees and everyone else involved in the meeting safe," said former meeting planner, now COO of Excellence Squared, Vicki Hawarden.

Meeting safety concerns and the need for venues to adopt a universal set of international standards for safety and security led Hawarden and her CEO Paul Bridle to develop The Secure Venue Standard  in coordination with the Events Industry Council.   Still in progress,  the standard includes customer security, health and safety, risk management and event security. Read MORE in this ASAE Associations Now article by Samantha Whitehorne.

This year's LDW attendees will have a chance to learn more about emergency preparedness for meetings and events by attending a session by PPAI Director of Expositions and Meetings Darel Cook and PPAI Counsel Cory Halliburton, JD.
Regional Spotlight
Regional Coupon Book

The Regional Coupon Book is a free digital coupon book filled with supplier coupons created by ZOOMcatalog in partnership with the regional promotional products industry associations.

TRASA Coupon Book TRASA Executive Director Patti Ward explains how the book benefits the regionals, "The Regional Coupon Book is an awesome tool to recruit distributors to renew their dues, or to join a regional in the first place. For example, the TRASA book is worth $1,200 in coupons that are valid for the calendar year. We tell our members and prospects that if you use two, or three coupons, you can easily get your membership dues back."  Read MORE.

PAPPA Geocache Event

PAPPA Geocache Event
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure-hunting activity in which participants use Global Positioning System (GPS)-enabled devices to first hide and then seek "geocaches," or "caches," at specific, hidden locations.

PAPPA did a geocache event three years ago, but this year, they used an easier location ( Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Lehigh Valley, PA)  and divided the group into teams to create competition and encourage networking.  Participants used promotional products related to hiking to  find 10 different hiking-related promotional products.
