Chapter News: June 2012
A Message from PRSA Charlotte President, Benny Smith, APR:

It's hard to believe that we are halfway through the year! I want to thank all of our members who have shared positive comments with the board about our 2012 programming thus far. We are dedicated to bringing in exciting and engaging speakers that will offer insight to help you grow as a PR practitioner.

Please join us in two weeks, on June 27, as we host George Johnson, APR, Fellow PRSA.

Johnson, one of the South's leading public relations professionals, will lead an interactive group discussion on following PRSA's best practices with integrity and transparency, while being responsive to external and internal customers in a fast-paced, 2.0 work environment.George Johnson

This topic is especially important to public relations professionals in today's world as we are connected electronically 24 hours a day. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube are a way of life.

With so much instantaneous information in our personal and professional lives, this can present unique and challenging decision-making issues for the public relations professional.

In approximately one-hour, Johnson will use two recent examples of what worked well for a company and what left us talking for months when information was mishandled.

Johnson was Vice President of Public Relations & Public Affairs for BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina for 32 years. He established and managed South Carolina's largest in-house, full-service public relations and advertising agency, and was corporate officer of the company's communications, government relations and corporate reputation activities. In early 2005, he became senior executive for the BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation, which he founded.

We expect this session to fill quickly, so please click here to reserve your spot.

Networking begins at 11:30 a.m., lunch at 12 and the program begins shortly after. The cost is $25 for PRSA Charlotte members, $35 for non-members and $15 for students.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday, June 27th!

Local Event to Replace June Coffee Chat Session

For the past few months, PRSA Charlotte has held free, informal coffee shop chats on the second Thursday of each month to allow our members to meet with local Charlotte leaders from various organizations, companies and media outlets.
