March is here already! The school year is flying by! End of the quarter is Friday, March 17th and report cards will go home on Friday, March 24th. As the students head into the 4th quarter, take some time to sit down with your child/children and celebrate their successes and create goals for areas of improvement. It is nice to reflect on their hard work and recognize their achievements! Many teachers speak with students individually about personal goal setting and looking at their classroom data. As I walk around the building, interact with the children, and pop into classrooms, I continue to be so proud of the students both academically and socially!
The March Madness District event is March 11th! We can't wait to see who will be "Principal of the Day" and what students will join us for some "bottle flipping" fun! Thank you to all of the families and staff members that are working hard to ensure this is a successful event! We are so fortunate to be in a district that does so many wonderful things to support our students. There are always lots of wonderful items to bid on! I hope to see you there.
Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, March 6th. (Pulaski Day)
Palos West has been collecting pull tabs, and we are counting them weekly! The money raised by these recyclable pop/pull tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities to improve the health, well-being, and education of local children. Thank you for supporting this, and continue to bring them in!
Beginning Tuesday, March 7th, students in grade three, four and five will be taking the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers Assessment (PARCC). The PARCC assessment is a state mandated assessment for grades 3-8 in both Reading and Math. The format for grades 3-5 will include three Reading sessions and four Math sessions ranging from 60-90 minutes per testing session; students will utilize computers or iPads to complete testing. Testing for some grade levels will begin promptly at 9:05 a.m. It is imperative that students are on time for school. If a student is absent on any day, they will perform the make-up at a later time and continue testing with their grade level.
The schedule is as follows:
5th grade students will take the ELA test March 7th, 8th, and 9th and the Math test March 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 23rd.
4th grade will take the ELA test March 10th, 13th, and 14th and the Math test March 24th, 27th, 28th, and 29th.
3rd grade students will take the ELA test March 15th, 16th, and 17th and the Math test March 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th.
Makeup testing will be March 31st and the week after our Spring Break.
As parents, you can help your child by making sure that they get to sleep on time and eat a healthy breakfast. Additionally, please avoid scheduling outside doctor/orthodontists appointments on these days. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.
As always, thank you for all you do to support your children, the teachers, and our school!
