Punta Gorda, FL - December 20, 2010 -
The Competitor Group has announced the 2011 lineup for the Columbia Muddy Buddy Ride & Run Series in 16 destination cities nationwide. The mud and fun will culminate in the ultimate series-ending Columbia Muddy Buddy World Championship event on December 4, 2011 at the Redneck Yacht Club in Punta Gorda, Florida.
"We're thrilled to be hosting the Columbia Muddy Buddy World Championship," said, Danny Kelly, founder of The Redneck Yacht Club. "We're proud of our park and know everyone will have a great time. Muddy Buddy and the Redneck Yacht Club have the same motto - enjoy the outdoors and have fun in the mud."
"This will be the biggest Columbia Muddy Buddy in the event's history," said Jamie Monroe, Event Director for Columbia Muddy Buddy. "We needed a venue that could accommodate more mud, bigger obstacles and more teams. The Redneck Yacht Club is the perfect site to make the World Championships a successful and memorable end to the series for all our participants."
Anyone can participate in the event, but only teams who have previously competed in at least one Muddy Buddy event can qualify for the competitive division, which will ultimately determine the Muddy Buddy World Champion.
The 2011 series will kick off in Orlando on Sat., April 9 and feature a new event in Buffalo, New York. Other cities on the list include Austin, Chicago, Portland, Los Angeles and Miami.
Columbia Muddy Buddy Ride & Run events are adventure races that require two-person teams to navigate a six to seven-mile mountain bike and trail-running course containing four obstacles. Each event's signature finale involves both teammates crawling through a 50-foot-long mud pit before crossing the finish line together.
"This event truly encompasses a shared love and enjoyment of the outdoors and we are proud to be part of that," said Linda Reese, Columbia Sportswear's director of brand and marketing communications. "Our partnership with Muddy Buddy provides a national platform to communicate directly with our most active consumers and we are excited about the continued growth of the series as it expands to new markets across the country."
"This event has grown leaps and bounds in the last 12 years," said Bob Babbitt, founder of the Muddy Buddy Series. "It's such a unique, fun experience that welcomes all ability levels and where the most important element is simply getting muddy and having a great time. It will be a thrill to cap off the 2011 series and see our best teams compete in the ultimate Muddy Buddy experience at the World Championships."
Kids between the ages of four and 13 can also join in the fun as a part of the Columbia Mini Muddy Buddy in which they complete a short obstacle course and slither through the same mud pit as the grown-ups. Columbia Muddy Buddy also partners with the Challenged Athletes Foundation, which raises money for athletes with disabilities and provides them with adaptive equipment.

The Columbia Muddy Buddy Ride & Run Series, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2009, is all about having a great time with your husband, wife, son, daughter or best buddy. The ingredients are two runners, one mountain bike, six off-road miles, four awesome obstacles, one glorious mud pit and a hunger for having a ton of fun. Teammates take turns riding and running their way through the course. The first person to arrive at the final obstacle, the mud pit, waits for their partner and then traverses the mud pit together before crossing the finish line.
