Roof Top Sedums Bird's Eye View - Green Roof E-Newsletter
Fall 2015 newsletter
This has been a great year in our region for growing green roofs.  Overall, the weather has been mild and rainfall has been plentiful.  Even though Mother Nature has been good to us this year, it is always important to check your green roof on a regular basis for maintenance needs.  If you have questions, as always we are here to answer your questions.  Your success is our success!

RoofBlue® - NEW Accessory to the LiveRoof® System
LiveRoof Integrated RoofBlue™ Riser is engineered to provide temporary water detention underneath LiveRoof systems.  When used with a control flow drain system, RoofBlue expands the usefulness of a green roof system as a stormwater management tool:
  • Reduces burden on stormwater systems.
  • May allow for reduced sized stormwater drains - saving money.
  • Could reduce or eliminate the need for other forms of on-site stormwater management.
(cisterns, underground tanks, detention ponds, etc.)
  • May reduce stormwater utilities or qualify for zoning incentives.
Contact us to discuss how RoofBlue® can be incorporated into your green roof project.

The Newest LiveRoof® System Projects
Installed this Summer Include:
KSU Beach Museum of Art - Manhattan KS
Kansas State University's  Marianna Beach Museum of Art  is the site of an inovative green roof  as  part of the "Cains on the Beach"  courtyard installation. "Cains on the Beach" by artist Stan Herd is an installation in the Stolzer Family Foundation Gallery and is in an open air courtyard. Stan worked    with a creative team of museum staff and students from the departments of Art and Landscape Architecture.  Linda Duke, Museum Director says, "From early in the conceptual phase, everyone got excited about the green roof idea.  The Landscape architecture students were especially keen on having a chance to design one. We believe the plants soften the rigid feeling of the stones by forming a curve of color across the entire space. We love the way the green roof components have turned the Stolzer Gallery into an inviting garden - a garden that will continually grow, bloom, and change throughout the seasons as it remains on view through May 2017."  The green roof uses the LiveRoof® Deep System and features 3 unique sedum mixtures.
1900 Shawnee Mission Parkway - Mission Woods KS
This iconic Modernist structure was built in 1967 as a 2-story building, but originally designed to accommodate a 3rd floor.  The extensive renovation of the property includes the addition of that 3rd floor and a green roof.  The project features the LiveRoof® Standard System and a diverse and colorful mixture of hardy sedums.

The seedlings for Roof Top Sedums were planted in 2006, when co-owner Teresa Nelson collaborated on a green roof project with LiveRoof® LLC in Michigan. This collaboration led Teresa and her sister, Roxanne Nagel, to fill a void in the growing green roof industry. Roof Top Sedums, LLC began providing custom grown green roof vegetation for the LiveRoof® Hybrid Green Roof System from their family farm in Davenport, Iowa. In addition, they have added the LiveWall® Vertical Green Wall System to their product line, and are excited to keep growing and growing!
