CHILDREN AT PLAY. Through play children explore their world, discover how to get along with others, test their skills and muscles, try out new ideas and feel competent enough to try different activities. There are many kinds of learning involved in play-curiosity, self esteem, language, problem solving and cooperation. Rutland Building Bright Futures and their Regional Council will be showcasing " Healthy Brain Development through Play" at their 3rd Annual Free Family Event: "Just Play? No Way! to be held on Saturday, October 17th from 10am-Noon, in the CVPS Leahy Community Health Education Center, at Rutland Regional Medical Center, 160 Allen Street, Rutland. JUST PLAY? NO WAY!
Save the date, Saturday, October 17th for Rutland BBF's annual free, fun, family event to be held from 10am-Noon in the CVPS Leahy Community Health Education Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center, 160 Allen Street, Rutland. There will be lots of creative hands on activities for children, snacks, free stuff, and door prize giveaways. RSVP recently donated adorable knit caps to be placed in our Welcome Baby Bags. They have a dedicated group of knitters who work on this project. Rutland BBF is very grateful to RSVP for their generosity. The new parents will be very excited when they seem them.

Kelley Todriff, Assistant Director for Rutland County Head Start discussed Head Start Initiatives in the Rutland Region and their continued collaboration with Building Bright Futures.

Vermont Early Learning Challenge Grant -- September Update
This month's
Vermont's Early Learning Challenge Grant
includes topics such as the Vermont Early Learning Standards, provisional licenses for early educators and the Blue Ribbon Commission for Financing High Quality, Affordable Child Care.

Vermont 2-1-1 to Launch Help Me Grow Vermont Call Line in October.
This specialized call line, staffed by trained
Help Me Grow Vermont Child Development Specialists, will now be available to address parent and caregiver questions about children's behavior and development. In addition they will connect families to resources and services within their communities. The
Help Me Grow Vermont Line can be reached by dialing 2-1-1 from 9am-6pm, Monday-Friday. Messages can be left for the Child Development Specialists after hours as Vermont 2-1-1 is available 24/7, 365 days a year.
Help Me Grow Vermont 2-1-1 services are confidential.
Vermont Childcare Community Forums
Let's Grow Kids and 20 other sponsoring organizations including
Building Bright Futures State Advisory Council and Affiliated Regional Councils are hosting these forums throughout the state to hear Vermonter's tell their stories about the challenges they face concerning high quality affordable childcare and to discuss real solutions. There is no charge for admission and dinner will be provided. Stipends are available by request to reimburse expenses for childcare while you are at the event. Childcare will not be provided at the forum.
The forum in Rutland will be held on October 27, 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Franklin Conference Center at the Howe Center.
Changes to Kindergarten Readiness Survey
The new KRS will be launched on October 15, 2015.
The new and improved KRS was a combined effort with the Agency of Human Services, Building Bright Futures, and the Agency of Education.
Kindergarten teachers will have an opportunity to attend a regional training to learn more about the new indicators, ratings and how to complete the on-line survey for each kindergartner enrolled. More information on how to register for regional trainings will be forthcoming. The start and end dates for completion of the KRS will be from October 15-November 13, 2015

Rutland BBF
Regional Council News
The Regional Council usually meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 6:00pm-8:00pm (unless otherwise noted) in locations to be determined. We cordially invite you to attend these meetings and join the conversation.
Agendas are put out in advance.
During our September 22nd Council Meeting, Carolyn Wesley, Project Manager for the Race to the Top Grant was our speaker and gave us an comprehensive update on many of the projects funded by the grant.
Next council meeting is Tuesday, October 20th (6:00pm-8:00pm)
at BROC Offices, 45 Union Street, Rutland. Speaker to be determined. Agenda will be forthcoming.
