Two
Dramatic Rescues
Despite high wind warning, two kayakers ventured out into Lake
Michigan waters on Friday, September 3, 2010 with almost disastrous
results. High winds, rain and waves were too much for the kayakers
and the US Coast Guard was called in to make two rescues.
The weather forecast called for gale-force winds, rain and six
to 10-foot waves. It was unclear when the kayakers ventured out
into the treacherous water, but by noon sustained winds had already
reached 27 MPH with 34 MPH wind gusts and five-foot waves.

Sunken Ship Found

Lakeshore. The ship is sitting upright on the lake floor fully in
tact with the boiler and engine still in place. She was said to be
carrying a strongbox full of gold and valuable brandy and premium
whisky worth millions today.

The
Leelanau Fruit Stand
There is nothing as quaint as the unmanned fruit
stand along a winding Leelanau road. Dozens of them dot the
landscape throughout the county each with its own history and
personality. Most are homebuilt. Some are weathered and unpainted.
Others have layers of old paint gently peeling giving it special
character.
