From Last Month:
Art Street x Chefs Aliiance

Slow Food Sacramento Chef's Alliance turned out amazing Ark of Taste inspired dishes for visitors at ART STREET

Last month's Art Street 916 event showcased Sacramento's community of amazing artists and chefs. As part of a month-long art installation in the Greater Broadway District, the Sacramento Chef's Alliance, led by Slow Food Sacramento member Ed Roehr, provided delicious foods like whole-roasted pork, wood-fired pizzas, and roasted North Georgia Candy Roaster Squash.

Big thank you to all the chefs who participated and who represented Slow Food to our community.

Our first quarterly membership meeting of 2017 is Wednesday, March 15, 7:00-8:30pm at the Colonial Heights Library, 4799 Stockton BLVD., Sacramento, CA 95820. We have plenty of parking and admission is free, so make sure you RSVP!

Led by Peter Ruddock, Slow Food California Ark of Taste Committee Chair, and Charity Kenyon, Slow Food Sacramento and Slow Food USA International Councilor, the meeting will focus on The Ark of Taste and the Presidia, which are part of Slow Food's Biodiversity Foundation projects. The Ark of Taste is a living catalog of distinctive and delicious foods that face extinction. Come learn about how you can help preserve these items, and how our local chefs, farmers and gardeners are playing their part!

There will also be an update on local Slow Food Activities, some Ark of Taste menu-building and tasting, and of course, time to make new friends.

Join us as chef and commercial fisherman, Christopher Wang,  shares the knowledge he's gleaned on a salmon boat in Bristol Bay Alaska. We'll explore the sustainability of salmon - one of the last great wild food resources in the world, we'll share salmon recipes, and we'll have the opportunity to purchase Chris' salmon.

$10 per person (select Class Only when registering)
Free to folks who pre-order salmon (select "I Preordered Fish!" when reserving your space)

The School Garden Symposium is a regional conference that brings together school garden educators, parents, and volunteers to learn about the importance of edible education. At this year's event, Chef Brenda Ruiz hosted two workshops highlighting the Slow Food Movement, and demonstrated hands-on ways for teachers to implement Slow Food Principles into their classrooms. To get your hands on the resources from the event, email Chef Brenda at

Thank you Chef Brenda for your dedication, and thank you to all who participated in this year's event!
Slow Food Youth Network:
Project GOOD continues to grow!
Project Good

More "good" news coming from Slow Food Partners Chanowk and Judith Yisrael of the Yisrael Family Farm. Their innovative Project G.O.O.D. (Growing Our Own Destiny), which employs youth to work at garden builds and community events throughout South Sacramento, received additional funding from the California Endowment and the Sacramento Regional Community Foundation! Chanowk is a Slow Food Sacramento Board member and Project GOOD is building the foundation for the Slow Food Youth Network in Sacramento.

To see this amazing project in action, and to join the movement to "Transform the Hood for Good", check their facebook page, or attend their next garden build!
Join the Slow Food Capitol Corps
Captol Corps
Slow Food California is looking forward to an active year at the state capitol. The Policy Committee, led by Chef Brenda Ruiz, is building a Capitol Corps and we need you to join! Learn about the issues and get all the tools you need to help us advocate for good, clean, and fair food and farm policy. Learn the power of making a phone call, delivering a letter, and standing up to state your support (or opposition) to one of our priority bills, and meeting your representative in his or her office.
Now, more than ever, we are learning the power and value of an active electorate -- and this investment is our best hope to make a difference. Email brenda@slowfoodsacramento, or for more information
