What will your Legacy Be?

On July 25th, over 200 people attended our Annual Celebration at Bouverie Preserve, to celebrate the power of volunteerism in Sonoma Valley.  We awarded "Sonoma Valley Stars" to the top volunteer or group of volunteers selected by each of our 16 nonprofit partners.  These partners, and other nonprofit organizations in the valley, provide important services in the areas of health and human services, arts and culture, historical preservation, animal welfare, the environment and education, all of which make our community stronger and healthier, and a wonderful place to live.

Although most of us are not in the category of Warren Buffett, Bill and Melinda Gates and 38 other billionaires who have pledged to leave more than 50% of their wealth to charity, we can still make an impact in our community by pledging a percentage of our estates to charity as well.  Inspired by the challenge issued by Buffett and the Gates, the State of California legislature has designated October 1, 2010 as Plan Your Giving Day, focusing on charitable giving through estate plans, with the goal of inspiring regular people to pledge 10% or more of their estates to charitable organizations.  For more information, click here, www.californiaplanyourgiving.com.

Now is the perfect time for you to consider making a legacy gift to the local nonprofit/s that are your passion.   For more information, contact the Executive Director of the nonprofit/s of your choice, Community Foundation Sonoma County, www.sonomacf.org  or a local planned giving professional shown below.  What will your legacy be?

Bouverie Preserve of Audubon Canyon Ranch was the spectacular setting for the Sonoma Valley Funds' annual celebration, held on July 25th this year. Catered by Board member Barbara Young, this event attracted more than 200 community members eager to hear about Sonoma Valley Fund's accomplishments, including the Youth Initiative summer school enhancement program, the 2010 recipients of grants from the George and Phyllis Ellman Fund (June 2010 e-newsletter), and the announcement of the 2010 "Sonoma Valley Stars" selected by our sixteen nonprofit Partners.
