Boys & Girls Clubs Ballet Outreach Program season-ending recital a great success
Boys & Girls Clubs dancers 2013
Dancers with the Springfield Ballet Company's Boys & Girls Clubs Ballet Outreach Program concluded its 2012-2013 season with a recital performance at The Legacy Theatre on Friday, March 15, 2013, at 5:30 p.m.

The Boys & Girls Clubs dancers performed a classical ballet piece, as well as a jazz dance. SBC dancers rounded out the evening by performing excerpts from SBC's recent productions of Rockballet and The Sleeping Beauty

The Boys & Girls Clubs Ballet Outreach Program is coordinated by SBC Ballet Mistress Gina DeCroix Russell. SBC dancers also generously donated their time to serve as ballet instructors for the 2012-2013 season: Tiffany Riech (lead instructor), Alana Aragon, Jaclyn Conway, Jaelin Heavisides, Taylor Krech, Genie Melamed, Caragan Phillips, Allison Rainford and Emily Standley.

A special thanks to: Marine Bank, Scheels, and Velo Mine Inc. for sponsoring our wonderful outreach program; The Legacy Theatre for the beautiful performance venue; Carl Rudin at Rudin Printing for printing our recital invitations; Scott Richardson for being so generous and supportive; Patrick Russell for tech and sound; Luke Becker for tech and lights; Joel Benoit for photography; Dawn & Caragan Phillips for making our dancers' bows, Sally Hamilton for helping organize our event; Mr. Charles Scott from the B&G Clubs for supporting this program; and all of the families, friends and fans who made this evening so very special!

SBC will be gearing up for our 2013-2014 season of the Boys & Girls Clubs Ballet Outreach Program, which is partially sponsored by the American Business Club. Classes will begin again in September.

If you are interested in more information about this program, or if you would like to support our efforts, please contact SBC Ballet Mistress Gina DeCroix Russell at decroix@springfieldballetco.org or 217-544-1967.

Positions of the Feet

Keep us in the right position and help the Springfield Ballet Company provide some very special shoes to some very special . . .

Company Dancers ~

Our 30 Company dancers dedicate an average of 20 hours per week training to perform for audiences and provide dance education and performances to community groups. The delicate pointe shoes our dancers wear provide a rigid support that prevents injury. Each pair is made by hand and after only a few rehearsals, the shoes become unusable and must be replaced. Through the course of a season of three or more productions, each dancer can expect to wear through a minimum of six pairs of pointe shoes at a cost of $60 to $75 a pair. SBC would like to provide each dancer the pointe shoes necessary for our productions. Please help us continue this tradition.

Boys & Girls ~

In the fall of 2013, the SBC will again offer its Ballet Outreach Program. This program was established 10 years ago to provide dance education to young people from areas that are often underexposed to the fine arts. The Ballet Outreach Program is offered in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, and teaches basic ballet to students ages six to 18. In addition to six months of weekly classes conducted by SBC volunteer ballet instructors, the Company provides ballet shoes, tights, leotards, bags and a t-shirt -- all at no cost to each student dancer. At the end of each season, parents and friends are invited to attend a free ballet recital performed by the Boys & Girls Clubs Ballet Outreach Program dancers at The Legacy Theatre.
