Outreach in Our Community

Springfield Ballet Company dancers have had a busy summer sharing the beauty, energy and diversity of dance with our community!

June 10-14, SBC dancers performed at more than 15 facilities throughout the Springfield area, including senior centers, long-term care facilities, The Hope School, St. John's Breadline, Rochester Library and many more! Thank you to Staab Funeral Home and Mrs. Barbara Schwartz for sponsoring our Summer Outreach Tour.

On June 20, dancers provided a performance / demonstration for more than 100 children who attend Project SCOPE at Ridgely and Butler Elementary Schools.

On July 12, SBC dancers Anna Benoit, Bailee Brinkman, Jaclyn Conway, Jaelin Heavisides and Caragan Phillips performed "Born to Hand Jive" for Horace Mann's GREASE-themed Officer/Director party at The Hilton.

SBC at ALPLM 2013

On July 18, SBC performed in the plaza at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum. Thank you to Phil Funkenbusch and Ed MacMurdo for inviting us to share our talents with visitors and patrons at the ALPLM.

On July 19, dancers provided a performance / demonstration for children attending the Camp Compass at Ridgely Elementary School. Camp Compass is a summer program for homeless and low-income elementary students of Springfield School District 186. Camp Compass is designed to focus on improving reading and math skills to prevent learning loss over the summer months, ensuring the students return to school on the first day "ready to learn."
Christmas in July!
Christmas in July 2013

Maintaining the high quality of the Springfield Ballet Company's production of The Nutcracker is a continuing challenge. Unfortunately, the costs of staging this magical production are only partially covered by the generosity of our corporate sponsors and ticket revenue. Your generous donations help the Springfield Ballet Company thrive in a world where funding for the arts continues to fall short.

As you enjoy the warmth of summer, you may find it's not too early to have visions of sugarplums dancing in your head. Our skilled dancers and audiences of children and families count on your support to help bring those unforgettable visions to life!

From the brave soldiers and ethereal angels to Clara and her Nutcracker Prince, your donation to support The Nutcracker will enable us to continue this wonderful family tradition that has charmed and entranced Central Illinois for over 35 years.

While all amounts of support are welcomed and appreciated, we have provided you the option to choose your giving level based on a favorite variation from The Nutcracker. Your donation will be recognized in our souvenir program book, given to thousands of patrons during our 2013-2014 season.

We sincerely thank you for your continued support and for making our Christmas in July campaign a great success!

BUNN and WYMG proudly present the Springfield Ballet Company's 20th annual production of Rockballet featuring live music by Downstate.

In celebration of SBC's 20th Rockballet, our 2013 production features performances and choreography by SBC alumni who are now working professionally in the world of dance!

Featured choreographers include:

Elizabeth Chapman (Principal Dancer, Georgia Ballet); Lauren Ohmer (Company member Anabella Lanzu / Dance Drama, New York); Julie Tice (former dancer with Paul Taylor Dance Company); Margi Cole (Artistic Director, The Dance COLEctive, Chicago); Lauren Small (BFA in Dance from Belhaven University and recent student at The Ailey School, New York); Caitlin Helton (dancer with Missouri Ballet Theatre, St. Louis); Alison Rhoades (recent graduate with a BFA in dance from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign); Erica Wesselman (dancer with Carolina Ballet Theatre, South Carolina); Elizabeth Staab (BFA in dance from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign); Meghan Loman (recently hired as a Company dancer with Carolina Ballet Theatre); Tiffany Riech (current SBC member, majoring in dance performance at Illinois State University); and Gina DeCroix Russell (SBC Ballet Mistress & Assistant Instructional Professor at Illinois State University).

Rockballet is going to be an unforgettable performance!

Since its 1994 debut, SBC's annual production of Rockballet continues to be daringly different. The brainchild of SBC Artistic Director, Julie Ratz, Rockballet is a vivid and exciting mix of adventurous choreography, memorable music and high-intensity dancing. A multimedia celebration of dance and rock music, Rockballet has had a stunning impact on the way Central Illinois views classical dance.

It is music visualized.

Thank you to Richard Calmes for this stunning photograph of former SBC dancer and 2013 Rockballet choreographer Elizabeth Chapman!
