SCA Students Travel Abroad
"Twenty-two SCA sophomores, juniors and seniors departed on March 22nd to explore the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland for nine days.  The trip took them to London, Bath, Wales, across the Irish Sea to Dublin and then on to Ireland's beautiful West Coast to the City of Galway.

Highlights of the trip included a guided tour of Windsor Castle, a scenic cruise on the River Thames, a visit to the Roman Baths, touring an ancient Welch castle, sailing across the Irish Sea into the main Dublin port, a visit to Trinity College, Dublin, to view the Book of Kells, and excursions to the Cliffs of Mohr, the Aillwie Caves and the Burren on the West Coast.  Evenings of Irish music and dance made for great entertainment.  Of course, there was ample time for shopping.

A special feature of the trip was a visit to Mercy International Center, a Dublin landmark and home to the Sisters of Mercy worldwide.  St. Catharine Academy is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy International Center is the very first house and ministry of the Sisters of Mercy, opening its doors on September 24, 1827.  The students were provided with a guided tour and enjoyed the Mercy hospitality of tea and fresh baked scones.

"Our students were just wonderful travelers," said Sr. Patricia Wolf, RSM, SCA's President, "and a number of them returned with the hope that they may be able to study abroad in the future."

The trip was conducted under the auspices of EF Educational Tours.  Next year SCA will take students to Italy, the Alps, and Paris.
