Reflection

A favorite observation from a teaching colleague years ago rings perennially true.  The colleague was a recent college graduate in her first teaching job.  After a particularly difficult day, she noted, "The more I realize how much I don't know, I'm teaching students who think that they know everything."  Ah, the pause that comes with age, as well as the boldness of youth.  They are poles on the continuum that we move along throughout life.  At times, reserving the right to reserve, while at other times stepping out as if we knew everything.

A revolution is interesting insofar as it
avoids like the plague the plague it promised to heal.

One is called to live nonviolently, even if the change
one works for seems impossible.

St. Francis
Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there
is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is d
oubt, faith;
where there i
s despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
