OASIS -- FOOD, STORY, PRAYER, COMMUNION, COMMUNITY
Want to be part of this new thing happening here every 2nd. Tuesday of each month. Our next gathering will be December 13th.

JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
St. John's continues to be very active at Jefferson. On the first and third Wednesdays of every month during the school year, we help staff the Clothing Closet and the Food Pantry. Currently, we are requesting baby clothes, toddler clothes, and winter coats for the Clothing Closet. In the Food Pantry, we are asking for help with cereals, pasta items, and canned vegetables. We are also looking to give school supplies to their students for the month of October. All donations can be placed in the tubs in the Gathering Place. There are also other volunteer opportunities available. There is a need for classroom assistants-for example, reading to the students-school store assistants, help in the office, and any other areas that would be of interest to you. Please contact our Jefferson liaison Sally MacGowan through the church office. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
SECRET SANTA X2
This year, we have decided to start our Christmas Gifts campaigns in November to avoid the " Christmas Rush ". We will be collecting items for both Jefferson Elementary and the Lutheran Home in Topton. Please watch the weekly bulletins for more specific information about these giving opportunities. Thank you for your generosity in giving to those less fortunate.
BOY SCOUT TROOP #11
Our Scout Troop is now in its 78th year as a functioning scout unit. We greatly appreciate everything that St. John's does for our troop. Recently, we have gone through a somewhat challenging transition, but have now started to add some new scouts. These young scouts are very enthusiastic about the scouting program, and have had positive experiences at our recent campouts. We are always looking to add new members to our troop, ages 10 ½ to 17 years of age. New adult leaders would be welcomed as well. We meet on Monday Nights at 7:15pm in the Great Room. If you know of any boys or adults who would be interested, please contact Don Hausman (610-432-8833) or Jim Hausman (610-428-7874) to answer any of your questions.

ADULT CLASS TO EXPLORE LUTHERAN-ROMAN CATHOLIC RELATIONS
2017 will mark the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation, the date of Luther nailing the 95 theses on the door of the Catholic Cathedral in Wittenberg. On Reformation Day, 2016, Pope Francis co-hosted an ecumenical prayer service in Lund, Sweden. Some questions: What has been your experience in interacting with Roman Catholics, their church? How have relations with the Roman Catholic Church and Lutherans changed in your lifetime? How do we balance a commitment to Biblical truth (as we understand it) and the call to unity in the church? Join the conversation in the Vestry Room at 9:15 AM on December 4.

PRAYER AND STUDY: December 7, 14 and 21- 6:30-8:00 On Wednesday evening in December Pastor Lori will lead a time of quiet prayer using Taize chants and the Psalms. Following prayer, from 7-8, the pastor will lead a study using the resource "Together by Grace: Introducing the Lutherans". We will explore the ways our own story intersects with history as pilgrims on a journey through life. If you cannot make it during Advent please look for the learning opportunities with Pastor Lori to continue on Wednesday mornings during the season of Lent.

 2016 LEHIGH MISSION DISTRICT INGATHERING

We again will be sponsoring Christmas gifts for the children of Topton Home. I have received a list of 10 children with their names, ages and gift suggestions. This information will be available for any member who wishes to purchase a gift. The suggested amount for each gift is $20.
I will be in the Gathering Place, between services, on Sundays, October 30th, November 6th and November 13th for anyone who wishes to participate in this program.
Please bring your wrapped gift, with the recipient's information on the package tag, any Sunday in November and place it in the box in the Gathering Place.
The gifts should be returned no later than Sunday, November 27th so that I can take them to the Ingathering on Wednesday, December 7th.

Also, if you would like to help on December 7th with the packaging of small items donated for the various groups, please call & let me know. We will need to be at St. John's in Emmaus at 10 a.m. on that day. The church is located at 501 Chestnut Street, Emmaus.

Call me at (610) 432-8833 if you have any questions about the Ingathering.

Thank you for your caring and generosity for this program,
Cheryl Hausman

FUTURE PLANNING
On November 20 we invite anyone interested in conversation about the future programming of Order of St. John, youth group, and Sunday School to a dreaming and planning session on Sunday, November 20 at 9:30.  We will meet in the gathering space (narthex) for open sharing and conversation.  Questions?  Contact the Circle leader, Donna Waldt or Pastor Lori.
