This past Sunday, at our Anniversary Sunday potluck, we got to hear from Beth Berendsen of the Advocacy & Outreach department at the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Beth gave a great, brief presentation on the importance of the Farm Bill, which is up for reauthorization this year, to the work of the GCFD and food pantries across the country. Some of us filled out postcards and sent letters to our legislators asking for their support. We also learned about an opportunity to support both the Greater Chicago Food Depository and our own Elijah's Pantry by walking in the Hunger Walk later this month. Simply signing up (and showing up) to walk puts dollars in our pantry's account that helps them purchase food to feed hungry families in our neighborhood. Walkers who solicit sponsors for their efforts raise even more money for both organizations. We would love to have a St. Luke's team at this year's Hunger Walk, but we need someone to lead the effort. This is a great opportunity for those of you who care deeply about our work on hunger and food access... but who can't be here at St. Luke's on Tuesdays and Thursdays when the pantry is actually open. If you are interested in leading a St. Luke's team at the Hunger Walk on Saturday, June 23rd please call or email Pastor Erik at your earliest convenience so that we can start making plans. Reception for Kate Fritz...
Following worship, during this Sunday's coffee hour, all are invited to attend a reception for Kate Fritz. Kate will be leaving Chicago and moving to Virginia, as she has graduated from her master's program. Be sure to join us as we celebrate her accomplishments and wish her success on her next adventure! |
BackStage Family Reunion...
BackStage Theatre Company would like to invite the St Lukes congregation to a fun theatrical gathering being held next Tuesday, June 12, from 7-9 pm. BackStage Theatre's mission is to explore the concept of family, and we'll be be gathering in the Chopin Theatre lounge at 1543 W Division for a "BackStage Family Reunion." It will feature the talents of some of BackStage's recent artists-turned-Equity, plus a special sneak-peek look at their upcoming production, A Scent of Flowers, announcement of the upcoming season, and a raffle where we will be giving away about twenty different tickets to cultural Chicago outings! Just tell them at the lounge door you want the "St Lukes rate" and the event price is only $10. The BackStage Ensemble would love to talk with you; please contact Zachary Cook at zfcook@gmail.com with any questions, or visit our Facebook event page. |
