Update from the Vestry

Dear Parishioners

I am writing to update you on the state of the parish as of May 2015. I am happy to report that as we welcome Father Joe Britton into our parish that we are in excellent health as a parish in matters spiritual, ministerial, and financial.

As we move into summer we welcome 21 new members of St. Michael and All Angels who were received into our community by Bishop Lamb on May 3rd. They are part of the 100 new members who have joined St. Michael and All Angels since 2013. So many of these new members have stated that they were deeply drawn to our parish because of our beautiful worship services that incorporate a clear message of spiritual engagement, excellent preaching, and aesthetic elements of music and art.

Here in St. Michael and All Angels we, both new and longer term members, are called to many different and important ministries both within our parish and out our doors and into the world. We are each called to service in different ways. The strength and depth of our engagement in living in ways inspired by Christ's presence within us are found in many places. This season we are profiling just some of those important elements such as our Food Pantry, Vestry, and St. Martins Hospitality Center for our homeless neighbors. Each month a ministry is profiled on both our church web page and at Ministry Matters sessions, held between services at the coffee hour. Those sessions serve several purposes: they inform us about the shared work of our church, allow leaders from those particular ministries to answer questions, and to challenge each of us to find different ways of living out God's will in our lives in service to others. If you are not already involved in a ministry, please consider learning more about the various ways you can participate in building God's kingdom on earth.

Our financial house is in good order. We have remained within budget during these first four months of 2015. Pledges and donations are strong. Thank you for what you have done to make our ministries successful through your financial support. So much of our ministerial work is made possible by all of us and I want to acknowledge and thank each of you for this accomplishment. It is particularly important that as Father Joe joins us on June 14th we continue to honor our pledges. In doing so it will allow him to use his early time with us to focus on learning more about us as people and our spiritual needs instead of having to immediately focus on logistical and financial matters. During the summer, as people travel and do not attend services, sometimes pledges fall behind. Please help us keep our financial situation strong as we enter a new era.

Most of all, I want to share with you my great optimism about this new chapter in St. Michael and All Angels Church. We are a vibrant faith community, with open doors drawing worshipers in and the children of God out into the world to do his work, and we are about to welcome a new priest who shares our calling for our parish to be a beacon of light in shining the Word of God across New Mexico.

Your Servant in Christ,

Cathy Bailey

Rector's Warden

Casa San Miguel

We can always use plastic bags and paper shopping bags.  Each family receives at least one paper bag with staple groceries and we use the plastic bags for things like produce that may be damp.

Community Connections Book Drive

Fourteen boxes of books and over 700 box tops were delivered to La Luz for both schools. The administration was excited and surprised over receiving the amount and gently used books that appeared new. Each child will go home with 2 books.  The box tops will continue to be collected year round in the Parish Hall.  Again, thank you for all the community support shared with this ministry.

Monday Night Movie

Movie Nights will resume Mondays at 6:00 pm we will gather in the Pavilion to watch a film.

Afterwards we will break into small groups to discuss the movie and how the subject or conflict affects our lives as Christians.  EVERYone is welcome to attend.

Bread for the World

In the United States, one of every five children suffers

from hunger. Yet federal nutrition programs like WIC and school lunches are deeply underfunded,
despite the long-term benefits these pr
ograms provide. This year's Offering of Letters addresses the reauthorization of the Healthy, Hunger-free Kids Act. We will be writing letters to our representatives in Congress, asking for better funding for these programs. Please come to an informational and letter-writing session in the Pavilion at 10:15 on Sunday, May 17. Your letters make a difference; please come help us express a unified Christian voice to reduce hunger among our children.
