Advent Retreat - Making God Credible: A reading of
Tokens of Trust by Rowan Williams
Saturday, December 12 at the Bosque Center, 9:00 - 1:00, ending with lunch.
Fr. Joe Britton will lead this Advent retreat based on Rowan Williams' book, which explores how we connect with God through the evolution of our trust in God's reality and love.
Cost is $25 for the day, and includes lunch and a copy of the book. Call Kathryn in the church office to sign up: 345-8147.
Ingathering of Pledges - Nov. 22

This Sunday, Nov. 22, will be the final Ingathering of pledges for the season. If you have not yet made your pledge please fill out the card and bring it with you on Nov.22 to place in the basket. We would like to thank everyone who has already pledged and encourage those who haven't to seriously consider helping to ensure St. Michael's is able to continue to provide the level of worship and community outreach it is known for.
Looking Ahead: Advent Retreat
"Making God Credible"

Saturday, December 12, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm,
at the Bosque Center in Albuquerque

Dear Friends,

In a little book entitled Tokens of Trust, Rowan Williams asks how and why it is that we are able to trust, to have confidence in, to take refuge in, the God who has made us.

Taking as a starting point the crisis of trust that pervades our culture, Williams looks at the reasons we have to think that the world of belief is a world which we would want to inhabit. A part of his answer, is that we find reasons to trust God in one another as we see patterns of faithfulness in people who "take responsibility in their own lives for making God credible."

As an Advent meditation, Tokens of Trust can open our thinking to embrace the mysteries we will be preparing to celebrate at Christmas, by helping us to rekindle our reasons to trust. I invite you to take a morning of your time to draw apart to ponder these questions, as we gather for a parish retreat on Saturday, December 12.

The book will be available following church beginning this Sunday, or in the parish office. The cost is $25 for the book and retreat, or $12 just for the book.

I look forward to being with you as we engage William's thinking, which is always fresh, challenging, and inspiring!

Faithfully,

Fr. Joe

Advent Event
Our much-anticipated Advent Event will be Sunday, November 29. The wreath making table will be set up all morning - please bring back your wreath form if you have it from a previous year. We will also have many fun crafts set up from 10:00 - 11:15. All are invited to join in the fun that morning. If you can bring some simple finger food to share, please let us know - Francesca at [email protected], or  Pr. Kristin at [email protected], or call 345-8147 x115.
Caring for Caregivers
Caring for Caregivers will hold its monthly gathering on Thursday, November 19, at 11 am in the Parish Office conference room. With God's help, we endeavor to provide brief but loving respite in community. All are welcome to join in the fellowship of compassion and pragmatic information sharing. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Denise Clauss @ 697-7294.
Casa San Miguel
Next Sunday, November 22, Casa San Miguel will begin collecting Christmas toys for the children of people who come to the food pantry.  If you can donate a toy for a boy or girl, please consider something small to medium in size.  We will also accept gently used toys that your children have outgrown and we will accept warm clothing.  We will collect toys on November 22 and 29, and also on December 6, 13, and 20.  We will distribute toys on December 1, 8, 15, and 22.
Silent Auction - AAEDS
December 5th and 6th are the dates for the 24th Annual All Angels Episcopal Day School Silent Auction and Holiday Fair!  Saturday shopping hours will be from 1:00-3:30 p.m.  The AAEDS children will have a music program in the church at 1:00 on Saturday afternoon followed by kid holiday activities including Saint Nicolas.  This will give parents and parishioners a chance to shop without small ones following the program.
Sunday shopping will be 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
This past summer we remodeled the classrooms and purchased new equipment, toys and supplies.  Now we want to turn our fundraising efforts to the playground remodel.  Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 for phase one of the playground.  With your help we can meet our goal.
We are currently accepting donations for this event.  Please bring items to the school office, in the old parish office Monday through Friday.  We will give you a letter for any donations.  We also hope to see you these as a shopper!
This year we will continue with our gold tag "purchase now" items in addition to  the auction items.  As always we will continue to sell Boars Head Holiday Hams, breakfast burritos, and hot cocoa.  All Angels English Toffee and Frontier Rolls will also be sold.  Bidding will remain open until 1:00 p.m.
The parishioners of St. Michael's have always been very generous in supporting our auction and we couldn't do it without you.  If you need help or more information, please call Anne Duran at 345-8147 ext. 161
Help Wanted
We are looking for someone to be able to facilitate our concerts, weddings, and funerals.  Concerts are usually on a Saturday night with a separate rehearsal.  Weddings and funerals are usually day work, but often on weekends.  This job pays a per event fee.  If you are interested, please contact Kathryn in the office.
Thanksgiving Dinner
St. Michael and All Angels is hosting an Intergenerational Thanksgiving Day Dinner on Thursday, November 26th from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.  All are most welcome!!  The church will provide Turkeys and beverages.  Please bring your favorite side dish or dessert and join in the festivities!  In order to plan accordingly, we ask for an RSVP either by signing up at the table set up between services or by emailing to [email protected].  If you have any questions, please contact Pr. An invitation to the Incarnation!
Each season of the Church's year usually is celebrated for seven weeks.
The Gospel that initiates the coming year
is like an introduction to the major mysteries of our faith.
Come and listen to the readings for Cycle C (mostly Luke) and some major prophets.
It is the coming of Light, Truth and Peace-the Word and the Person of God
coming once again to dwell with us on earth.
There will be stories, and the Word and conversations
about how we incarnate God's Word today.
This opportunity is a MUST
for preachers, prayers, poets (aspiring) and anyone hoping
that God really does abide with us.
