"Retuning"
Dear Friends,

This Sunday, November 29, is the First Sunday of Advent, when the liturgical calendar turns over to the next year, and therefore also invites a time for retuning our worship offerings.

Working with the Worship Committee, we have been considering how each of the four services might become "more itself," whether quiet and contemplative, lively and informal, gracious and classical, or bi-lingual and on the edge (as each of the services is described, respectively, on our website).

Beginning this Sunday, we will work toward giving each service room to be more fully itself, including such things as greater silence at the early service, a sung liturgy at the late service, a more intimate setting and accessible music for the evening service, and new seasonally-focused texts for each of the services.

I am told that much of this retuning is in fact a recovery of what once was, the services having tended to drift toward similarity over time. I hope that these adjustments will contribute to making each of our Sunday gatherings even more worshipful, prayerful, and Christ-centered experiences-which one especially yearns for in Advent-as each service lives into its distinct identity.

We look forward to hearing your response!

Faithfully,

Fr. Joe
Thanksgiving Dinner
St. Michael and All Angels is hosting an Intergenerational Thanksgiving Day Dinner on Thursday, November 26th from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.  All are most welcome!!  The church will provide Turkeys and beverages.  Please bring your favorite side dish or dessert and join in the festivities!  In order to plan accordingly, we ask for an RSVP either by signing up at the table set up between services or by emailing to [email protected].  If you have any questions, please contact Pr. Kristin Schultz at 345-8147, ext. 115 or Denise Clauss at 697-7294.
Advent Event

Feast of St. Nicholas
On December 6 we will have an intergenerational event to hear the story of St Nicholas, along with crafts and activities. Watch for details.
Pledge Drive Update
This past Sunday, The Rector's Warden Cathy Bailey gave a very informative presentation on the current state of the 2016 Pledge Drive. In case you missed it, or would like to revisit the numbers, here is a link to the slides she used.
Icon Exhibit
Gallery St. Michael's newest exhibit in the Pavilion is its Fourth Annual Icon Exhibit: Images of the Sacred; Traditional and Contemporary. It will hang through January 10, 2016 with an artists reception on December 4, 6 - 8 p.m. In addition, it will be open during the intermissions of the Musica Antigua de Albuquerque concerts held at St. Michael's on December 5 and 19. The exhibit will be open on Sunday mornings between services and can also be seen any time the church office is open except when the Pavilion is being used by previously scheduled groups. Participants include parishioners from Saint Michael's and San Gabriel.
Casa San Miguel
Last Sunday, Casa San Miguel started the annual collection of Christmas toys for the children of people who come to the food pantry.  If you can donate a toy for a boy or girl, please consider something small to medium in size.  We will also accept gently used toys that your children have outgrown and we will accept warm clothing.  We will collect toys on November 29 and also on December 6, 13, and 20.  We will distribute toys on December 1, 8, 15, and 22.  We got off to a very good start and we want to thank you all for you generosity.
Silent Auction - AAEDS
December 5th and 6th are the dates for the 24th Annual All Angels Episcopal Day School Silent Auction and Holiday Fair!  Saturday shopping hours will be from 1:00-3:30 p.m.  The AAEDS children will have a music program in the church at 1:00 on Saturday afternoon followed by kid holiday activities including Saint Nicolas.  This will give parents and parishioners a chance to shop without small ones following the program.
Sunday shopping will be 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
This past summer we remodeled the classrooms and purchased new equipment, toys and supplies.  Now we want to turn our fundraising efforts to the playground remodel.  Our goal this year is to raise $10,000 for phase one of the playground.  With your help we can meet our goal.
We are currently accepting donations for this event.  Please bring items to the school office, in the old parish office Monday through Friday.  We will give you a letter for any donations.  We also hope to see you these as a shopper!
This year we will continue with our gold tag "purchase now" items in addition to  the auction items.  As always we will continue to sell Boars Head Holiday Hams, breakfast burritos, and hot cocoa.  All Angels English Toffee and Frontier Rolls will also be sold.  Bidding will remain open until 1:00 p.m.
The parishioners of St. Michael's have always been very generous in supporting our auction and we couldn't do it without you.  If you need help or more information, please call Anne Duran at 345-8147 ext. 161
Goodwill Collection Bin
Do you know we have a Goodwill collection bin? We do! It is located in the youth building. Each time it is filled and collected, the church receives $75.00!  Thanks to Pr. Kristin, who came up with the plan, we have been able to fund our youth group with activities and also afford to do some much needed remodeling in the school.  You may bring your items anytime during office hours. If the building is locked, just check with Kathryn in the parish office for help.
This is a win-win situation for sure - we get to pass along items we no longer use, the church makes money, and Goodwill receives the goods they need in their service work. Through this program, Goodwill returns between $25-30 THOUSAND a month to the community!!  Spread the abundance!
Help Wanted
We are looking for someone to be able to facilitate our concerts, weddings, and funerals.  Concerts are usually on a Saturday night with a separate rehearsal.  Weddings and funerals are usually day work, but often on weekends.  This job pays a per event fee.  If you are interested, please contact Kathryn in the office.

An invitation to the Incarnation!
Each season of the Church's year usually is celebrated for seven weeks.
The Gospel that initiates the coming year
is like an introduction to the major mysteries of our faith.
Come and listen to the readings for Cycle C (mostly Luke) and some major prophets.
It is the coming of Light, Truth and Peace-the Word and the Person of God
coming once again to dwell with us on earth.
There will be stories, and the Word and conversations
about how we incarnate God's Word today.
This opportunity is a MUST
for preachers, prayers, poets (aspiring) and anyone hoping
that God really does abide with us.
