Dear St. Thomas Families,
Joyce Allston quote: "Grandparents, like heroes, are as necessary to a child's growth as vitamins." Grandparents Day was a great success! The students were thrilled with giving tours of their school/classrooms and Grandparents enjoyed their visit. Students created special cards that were attached to a bag of goodies and the morning ended with prayer in the church.
St. Thomas teachers and staff are always on the lookout for positive things that our students are doing. As a continued practice from last year, teachers and staff are carrying Mr. or Ms. Manner's cards to focus on this year's theme of "Let Your Light Shine". Our theme will also focus on manners and respect for this school year. These special cards can be given to a student who is observed modeling positive interactions or choices. It may be as simple as lending a helping hand to someone who has dropped his or her books, or stepping forward to take on an important task. Students who receive a Mr. or Ms. Manner's card can drop them into a special container in the office. At the end of the month, a student name will be drawn and receive a "spirit wear" day pass to be coordinated with their teacher.
Emergency (fire, lock down, tornado and earthquake) drills were practiced by students and faculty on Thursday, September 8th. The Ft. Thomas Police and Fire Departments were present for the drills. The fire drill evacuation for Preschool through 8th grades took only 1 minute and 34 seconds. The Fire Chief complimented our school on how organized the drills were conducted! The students were orderly and did an excellent job!
As a friendly reminder, the "school registration fee" will be deducted from your FACTS account in September. This is a one-time deduction and thereafter the scheduled monthly tuition fee will resume to the normal deduction.
Upcoming field trips are scheduled for the 4 th and 5th grades.
Mrs. Holtz will take the 4th grade to Fall
Environmental Day Camp at the Campbell County Environmental Education Center on Monday, September 19th.
Mrs. Arnett will take the 5th grade class to Alexandria Fair Grounds for the "Grow It, Eat It, Wear It" event on Monday, September 26th. Both classes will depart around 8:30 a.m. and return to the school about 2:00 p.m.
While the students love the "Gaga Pit" the pit will be taken down until the Spring. The reason it's being removed earlier than normal is due to the amount of student injuries on a daily basis. Goal is to obtain a material to pad the bottom of the pit, so in the Spring, students injuries will be minimal.
Rosary Club began this week and will meet the second Monday of each month in Mrs. Simon's room. The Robotics Team is 30 students strong! Our coaches are Mrs. Myers and Mr. O'Dea for Jr. High students (grades 6-8), and Mrs. Holtz and Mrs. Brennan for the Intermediate students (grades 4 and 5). This extra-curricular activity has doubled since last year with the Boosters Club providing financial support for this team's growth. Thank you to the coaches and Boosters Club.
The 8th Grade will sell popsicles after school this Friday, September 16th. Bring your quarters! Each popsicles is 25 cents. The stand will be located on the West side of the plaza area.
Have a blessed week.
