'Tis the season for bridal shows! We've been out and about lately, with more appearances on the way, so be sure to stop by our booth and say hello.

Most exciting for us is our own bridal open house, which we'll be holding on Sunday, February 23 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. We'll not only be showcasing our venues, but we've invited our preferred vendors to join us so that they can showcase their services, as well. We'll have some of the area's most talented caterers, DJs, florists, cake-bakers, and photographers on hand-exceptional professionals ready to help every bride and groom start their "Happily Ever After" together in style.

The event is free, although we ask interested brides to please register in advance at happilyeverafteropenhouse.eventbrite.com.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Hawkins

Blogging with
"Jenny at the Ridge"

If you haven't checked out our blog lately, we'd love to have you pay a visit.

"Jenny at the Ridge" offers a behind-the-scenes look at life at Stevenson Ridge and gives me a chance to talk about the things that make my job so fantastic: the satisfactions and challenges of being an events coordinator, the charms and surprises of being an innkeeper, and the natural beauty of the property itself.

Our blog also gives you the chance to get to know some of the folks who work at Stevenson Ridge: Executive Chef David Knapp, Head Wedding Coordinator Elizabeth Timms, wedding coordinators Charlotte and Erin, inn and events assistant Gail Brimer, and historian-in-residence Chris Mackowski.

Admittedly, "Jenny at the Ridge" was pretty quiet during the fall, but we're posting a couple times a week now. The ramped-up attention to our blog is part of our recent efforts to increase our digital media presence. Up next: an overhaul of our entire website. We'll be announcing our relaunch soon!

Welcome to historian-in-residence Chris Mackowski

History is an important part of our character here at Stevenson Ridge--from our many historical cottages to our location adjacent to the Spotsylvania Battlefield and the well-preserved earthworks that wind across our property.

As we place more emphasis on our historic resources, we've welcomed historian Chris Mackowski
to our staff. Chris is managing editor of the blog

Emerging Civil War and author of a number of books about the area's battlefields. He has a Ph.D. from Binghamton University and works as a professor at St. Bonaventure University.

Chris has done some curatorial work for us to help us better showcase our Civil War collection, and he's now compiling new materials for a new brochure about Stevenson Ridge's Civil War history, including new maps of our earthworks and hiking trails.

Don't forget, too, that Stevenson Ridge continues to offer private tours of all four of the area's Civil War battlefields. Contact us at info@stevensonridge.com.

Simply Murder for $1.99
In the new second edition of his book Season of Slaughter: The Battle of Spotsylvania Court Househistorian-in-residence Chris Mackowski includes new information about the action that took place on Stevenson Ridge, which was named after Brig. Gen. Thomas Greely Stevenson, a Union officer killed by a Confederate sharpshooter.

As it happens, Amazon.com has a special limited-time offer underway for the Kindle version of Chris's book Simply Murder: The Battle of Fredericksburg. If you'd like to check out Chris's work, here's the perfect way!
