The Cloud Computing Showplace Update
THINKstrategies' Perspectives About the Business Implications of Today's SaaS, PaaS and IaaS Trends
Welcome to Our November Update
It has been a busy month, kicked off with our first Cloud Channel Summit hosted by THINKstrategies, the Cloud Computing Showplace and Rising Tide Media on Monday, November 7, in Mountain View, CA.
The purpose of the Summit was to provide an intimate forum where executives from leading Cloud vendors and channel organizations could discuss the changing role of the channel in the Cloud, and identify new partnering models for success.
The Summit attracted nearly 200 attendees, including 31 speakers, and was supported by 19 industry partners and 17 corporate sponsors. We are very pleased with the positive response from everyone who participated in the Summit. You can see their testimonials here.
Based on the success of the event, we are putting plans together to not only host a second Summit in 2012, but a second conference next year focused on another important Cloud issue facing IT and business decision-makers from organizations of all sizes across nearly every industry worldwide.
The success of the Cloud Channel Summit was due largely to THINKstrategies' ten-year history of helping its clients achieve their business objectives by leveraging leading edge services, and the strength of the ecosystem of relationships which has been built by the Cloud Showplace. which gives us a unique perspective regarding the issues shaping the Cloud marketplace.
The Showplace now includes over 1850 companies divided into over 90 Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) categories. The Cloud Showplace is also a convenient place to discover interesting new Cloud companies which are continuously adding their company information to the online directory. You can find real-time updates on the Showplace homepage or get our alerts via Twitter.
Over 14,000 people subscribe to this monthly newsletter and over 1900 follow THINKstrategies on Twitter. In addition, you can keep up with the latest Cloud news via THINKstrategies' SaaS/Cloud Daily update, powered by Paper.li.
We also continue to recognize Cloud companies delivering measurable business benefits to their users through our ongoing Best of SaaS Showplace (BoSS) and Cloud Computing Business Value (CCBV) Award programs. Contact me if you'd like to determine if your Cloud company qualifies for these awards.
This newsletter will give you an update on our latest Award winners, as well as our views about the important forces which are shaping the Cloud marketplace.
I want to thank the companies listed to the left who are the most recent sponsors and supporters of the Showplace.

Are Roll-Ups Possible in the Cloud?
Oracle's recent acquisition of RightNow raises the question whether multiple cloud companies can be merged together to form a tightly coupled suite of solutions like those which were promised but never delivered during the client-server era.
On the face of things, it would appear that merging Cloud companies together should be relatively easy and straightforward since many of them already interconnect with the advent of application program interfaces (APIs).
Alas, not every Cloud company is built the same. Like snowflakes, cloud company architectures, programming languages and a myriad of other operational pieces and parts can differ dramatically.

Can Google Win in the Enterprise?
One of the most intriguing questions in the rapidly evolving Cloud marketplace is whether Google can succeed in the enterprise.
While Gmail and Google Apps are experiencing tremendous growth and appear to be making serious inroads within organizations of all sizes, Google still faces significant hurdles to become a major player in this segment of the market.
Click here to read THINKstrategies' view about the fundamental challenges facing Google if it is going to be a serious supplier of enterprise-class Cloud solutions.

The Market Implications of Salesforce.com's Acquisition of Model Metrics
Salesforce.com's acquisition of Model Metrics
has a number of important implications for the Cloud computing and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) industries.
It is a sign of the stage of life of the "on-demand" services market. It is also an indication of the maturation of a key market leader in the rapidly evolving Cloud/SaaS world.
And it illustrates the growing importance of consulting services to broadening the adoption of cloud/SaaS alternatives across the mainstream marketplace.

SaaS & Cloud Integration in the Spotlight
The proliferation of Cloud-based, SaaS business applications have created a growing challenge for organizations of all sizes trying to fully leverage these powerful solutions by tying them together with other cloud applications, as well as their legacy applications, systems and data sources.
THINKstrategies and MuleSoft have published a joint survey study which found that integration is also the most common hurdle in the sales process for SaaS vendors, with almost 90% of the survey respondents considering integration to be important or extremely important in winning new customers. Click here to learn more about the survey findings and their implications for SaaS vendors.
Compounding the data integration challenge is the need to ensure the quality of the data traversing today's Cloud/SaaS applications. Clogging Cloud apps with bad data defeats the economic and functional benefits which they can provide.
THINKstrategies has published a new Strategic Thinking Profile which examines how Informatica's Cloud Winter 2012 Release offers new data quality and enterprise integration capabilities to respond to these issues. Click here to obtain a copy of THINKstrategies' profile.
