The Cloud Computing Showplace Update
THINKstrategies' Perspectives About the Business Implications of Today's SaaS, PaaS and IaaS Trends
Welcome to Our September Update

JKaplan Photo

Summer in New England has officially ended and Fall has already brought a new round of activity.

Our primary focus over the past month has been on pulling all the pieces together for our upcoming Cloud Channel Summit, on Monday, November 7, in Mountain View, CA. And, I think you'll be pleased with the results of our efforts.

The Cloud Computing movement is disrupting every aspect of the traditional technology and software worlds, including the way system functionality and business application capabilities are sold, delivered and supported. This disruption has been particularly acute in the 'channel', among traditional value-added resellers (VARs), integrators and other third-party service providers. The purpose of the Cloud Channel Summit is to examine these trends, identify new channel opportunities, and propose new business models for success in the Cloud.

I'm very pleased with the response we've received from leading Cloud vendors,
including IBM and Google, emerging market players, industry publications, trade associations, and other organizations who are supporting and participating in the Summit. You can read about our latest sponsors, speakers and supporters in this newsletter below.

The Cloud Showplace gives THINKstrategies a unique vantage point to see how the Cloud industry and marketplace are truly evolving and help corporate decision-makers within solution providers, enterprises and investment firms leverage these trends to achieve their business objectives.

Are You Ready for the Social Enterprise?

The main theme of this year's Dreamforce conference was the concept of the "Social Enterprise", businesses and other organizations transformed by internal social networks in the same way that consumer markets have been changed by social media.

Contact us if you'd like to discuss how the Social Enterprise will impact your organization and how you can leverage this concept to achieve your corporate objectives.'s New Data Residency Option (DRO) Could Redefine Cloud Market

While most of the attention at Dreamforce was focused on the main theme of the Social Enterprise, unveiled a new Data Residency Option (DRO) based on the unique encryption capabilities of a former THINKstrategies client that was recently acquired by, Navajo Systems.

This new DRO capability could alleviate the lingering concern of many IT and business decision-makers about migrating their corporate data to the Cloud. If the DRO feature works as promised, it could remove the most important barrier to Cloud adoption and exponentially expand the addressable market for Cloud services.

Why Tracking Cloud User Behavior Is a 'Plus'

One of the most controversial aspects of today's Web is the ability of vendors to monitor your behavior, so they can anticipate your needs and manipulate your actions. Many view this power as an invasion of privacy and a violation of commercial ethics. Others welcome these business practices, because they can make it easier to find things that satisfy our personal preferences.

Until recently, the controversy surrounding this issue primarily focused on how companies like Google and Facebook are capturing user behavior on the consumer Web. But a growing number of software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud vendors are exploring how they can monitor and measure corporate user patterns.

Contact us if you'd like to discuss how THINKstrategies can help you determine how to capitalize on today's user tracking capabilities without creating privacy concerns.
