Greetings! November 2011
Congratulations! The Donate Life - Texas Registry reached a major milestone this month - 2 million people in the state of Texas registered as organ, eye and tissue donors. While across the nation, the goal of reaching 100 million registered donors was met.
As we celebrate these achievements, the need for life-saving transplants continues to rise. Even with the millions of people registered across the United States, many will die waiting for a transplant that will not come in time. Each person that registers as a donor provides hope to the more than 112,000 men, women, and children who are currently in need of a transplant - 10,800 of those live in the state of Texas.
These milestones would not have been possible had it not been for the hundreds of hours dedicated by transplant recipients, donor families, healthcare professionals and the transplantation and donation community. Together, we were able to educate and register many participants at health fairs, run/walks, best practices classes, phone banks, as well as students and employees from many of our community organizations. And let us not forget our media friends who featured our countless stories on television, radio, newspaper and magazines.
Thank you to our Central and South Texas Friends for Life partners for the countless hours that were dedicated to assisting fellow citizens in becoming a registered organ, eye and tissue donor. The importance of each hour we commit to work together brings us closer to saving and/or enhancing a life.
Once again, thank you, your commitment and dedication does not go unnoticed.
