In this article, Dr. Perry writes,
The profound impact of domestic violence, community violence, physical and sexual abuse and other forms of predatory or impulsive violence can not be overestimated. Violence impacts the victims, the witnesses -- and, ultimately,us all. Understanding and modifying our violent nature will determine, in large part, the degree to which we will successfully 'adapt' to the challenges of the future -- the degree to which future generations of human beings can experience humanity.
In order to understand the origins and impact of interpersonal violence, it is essential to appreciate how violence alters the developing child. The child and the adult reflect the world they are raised in. And, sadly, in today's world, millions of children are raised in unpredictable and violent settings -- incubated in terror.

The Village Network Named NMT Flagship Site 
The ChildTrauma Academy is pleased to announce that
The Village Network, based in Wooster, Ohio, has been named an NMT Flagship Site. CTA has created a network of partner organizations who are certified in the NMT, have dedicated thousands of personnel hours to master core concepts and implement the NMT in their clinical settings, and demonstrate exceptional creativity and excellence in various program activities with a willingness to share with, and learn from, colleagues and other programs. In recognition of CTA's ongoing relationship with The Village Network and their continued demonstration of the intention to engage in extensive internal and external NMT-related training and related activities, we are proud to offer them the Flagship Program designation.
Since 1946, The Village Network has specialized in the treatment and care of abused, neglected and troubled youth. Integrated programs include residential treatment, day treatment, treatment foster care and alternative school programs at multiple locations throughout Ohio. This extensive continuum of care allows youth at The Village Network to move within programs and network locations to meet changing treatment needs. There are multiple locations across the state including Akron, Canton, Cleveland, Columbus, Delaware, Knox County/Mt. Vernon, Lorain, Newark, Sandusky, Uhrichsville and Wooster.
We look forward to working with The Village Network in a variety of ways to continue improving programs which will further develop and refine evidence-based practices within their organization and community!

CTA Welcomes New Robin Fancourt Memorial Scholar
Christine Schieszler is a ChildTrauma Academy Fancourt Memorial Scholar. She received her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Houston in Texas. While there, she became a Child Trauma Program Fellow where she participated in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) training and specialized consultation calls with Dr. Laura Murray from Johns Hopkins University. During her internship and fellowship at the Children's Assessment Center (CAC) in Houston, under the supervision of Susan A. Szczygielski, LCSW-S, CART, Christine implemented TF-CBT and utilized Child-Centered Play Therapy to serve survivors of child sexual abuse and their families.
Ms. Schieszler is continuing her education in the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program at Roosevelt University in Chicago in the Fall of 2015. There she will be participating in the child neuropsychology track offered by Roosevelt University. Christine's goal is to become a licensed neuropsychologist, with aspirations of conducting assessments and providing treatment to children and adolescents whom have endured sexual and physical abuse and neglect.
