Kids in Motion | |
We would like to welcome Katrina Farabaugh and Marcey Vaden to our KIM staff. We also want to recognize our other staff members; Sakina, Shannon, Farida and Fatima, for helping cover while we were shorthanded.
Please make sure your babies and young toddlers are fed before you drop them off. The extra one-on-one time needed by staff to feed your child prevents them from caring for the other children. The HPC offers child minding to our members but KIM does not include full nanny service.
And please remember there is a 2 hour limit for your child! |
| EXERCISE OF THE MONTH |
This month we are featuring the Dual Pulley Row. This exercise is great for back health and posture.

Marvin Charles
Marvin is a retired Lehigh Professor of Engineering. He has been a member of the HPC for over 2 years. Marvin states that his primary reason for joining was "to keep the strength I have, to improve balance and flexibility and to meet nice people." You can see him here 5 or 6 days a week for a 1/2 to 1 1/2 hours depending on his mix of activities. Marvin's workouts include biking, treadmill, weights, stretching, machines, steam room, and the track. He thinks that the HPC is "a great place for an old fart to stay in shape and to make new friends. A wonderful, friendly staff that's always there to help and to provide excellent advice and guidance."

| June Happenings | | Father's Day Special! Just like we did last month for the ladies, we are offering one free guest visit and also ZERO enrollment fee for all males the week of June 17-23.
We are continuing our Summer Student Special, $150 (with zero enrollment) for the summer, membership will automatically expire on September 3rd.
Massage Therapist Bonita Cassel will be having a demonstration on the Trager style of massage on June 18th at 3:30 and 6:30 in the HPC lobby. |
| Pool Happenings | |
Closings:
On Saturday, June 2rd, we will be closing and draining the therapy pool for maintenance. We plan on having it up and running by Monday, June 4th.
On Sunday, June 3rd, we will be partially draining the activity pool. This too should be ready Monday June 4th.
Respect:
Please show respect for your fellow members and do not interfere with pool classes. Occasionally, there may be enough space in a corner to do your own workout, but most of the time it is best to wait until the class is over before entering the pool. |

I have been hearing about these Shape Ups sneakers, what is the latest information on them?
You have been hearing a lot about these shoes because The Federal Trade Commission announced that Skechers USA, Inc. has agreed to pay $40 million to settle charges that the company deceived consumers by making unfounded claims that Shape Ups would help people lose weight, and strengthen and tone their buttocks, legs and abdominal muscles. Skechers claims that the shoes promoted weight loss and toning over other athletic foot wear. The idea is that the rolling pattern of the shoe makes the muscles in your legs work harder. They also claim that they are better for burning calories, aerobic conditioning and for balance. The shoe did cause a lot of people to be off balance. Go to http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2012/05/consumerrefund.shtm for more details.
Reebok had to pay a similar settlement a few months ago for their false claims about their "toning " shoes.
At the HPC we have been telling everyone since day one that these shoes make no sense. Once again...if it sounds too good to be true it probably is. Moral of the story: Work out hard, eat right, drink plenty of water.....it's been working forever.
