Creating a just and supportive environment for refugee claimants

MCRS staff and volunteers provide support for refugee claimants.

For refugees who have lost everything fleeing violence and oppression, a complex immigration process can seem like an insurmountable obstacle. The Mennonite Coalition for Refugee Support (MCRS), in Kitchener, Ontario, helps people seeking safety overcome the obstacles.

We share this story of MCRS, and the Volunteer Legal Support Program that LFO funded, in honour of World Refugee Day on June 20.

Making Law School Accessible for Aboriginal PeopleS

Aboriginal students participate in a PLSNP field trip.

The Program of Legal Studies for Native People (PLSNP), is run by The Native Law Centre at the University of Saskatchewan and supported by an LFO grant. The program offers legal education, skills instruction, and financial support to Aboriginal students, from across the country, who have been admitted to law school.
