Happenings at the Resort...November 2016
Greetings from Port Ludlow -

A recent article in the Sunday newspaper had a story that really spoke to me....did you see it? If not, please take a moment and do so.....I think it's pretty worthwhile.....

The question is, "What is AWE, anyway?"

"Awe is the feeling of being in the presence of something vast or beyond human scale, that transcends our current understanding of things," according to Dacher Keltner, head of the University of California Berkeley's Social Interaction Lab. (He's the guy that helped create the "like" button emojis on Facebook).

So, living in this area, we experience AWE on a regular, I would venture to say, daily basis - or many times during one day, even....and it makes me think about this -   what is AWE to you?

If you'd be willing to share this, I'll pass it along in upcoming newsletters. I'm calling it the Journey of AWE. Will you join me?

For example, this view (below) catches my breath every day...and when the first time the fresh snow appears as the seasons turn..... it is, this feeling of AWE.

Many moments of AWE have happened for me thanks to the work of the Port Ludlow Hiking Club. Check out their site with photos of Mother Nature's fine work...and this will inspire some AWE for you too! (it may even inspire you to take a walk on one of these trails!)
Three times a year, we are privileged to host the "knitters" - and their work presents many moments of AWE as they "yarn bomb" the resort with results of their newest lessons. If you need some inspiration (or early holiday shopping is on your to-do list), come by on Saturday for their MARKETPLACE.

In the spirit of the "Journey of Awe" - we invite you to submit your photo that depicts "AWE" for you.   The top three will win gift certificates to get your holiday shopping going.  When you submit, you agree that we may use your photo and give you credit for the photo.  Please do so no later than November 28th.  Winners will be announced in next month's newsletter.
Morning AWE - Fresh Snow on the Mountains.
Congrats to last month's winner, Lori Colby - she was the first to respond correctly, the image was of the fishing dock at Teal Lake - the only accessible fishing facility in Port Ludlow built by the Port Ludlow Fly Fishing community.

It's the season to celebrate family, friends, and the delicious foods that we associate with colder temperatures and the holiday season.

December brings us  Comfort Food Dinner Nights with dishes like Warm Apple Pie, Buttermilk Fried Chicken, and Roasted Pork Loin - talk about that cozy feeling inside!

The Inn is decorated with associate stockings - the day after Thanksgiving- very festive and an opportunity for you to shop and enjoy a bit of the season.  We'll be participating in the community tag program again too - so, come and pick one, provide the gift a local child has asked for (then stay and enjoy a meal to treat yourself for this kind gesture.)

Two of our favorite events of the year are the "Eves"....we call them civilized and hope you'll join us for either  Christmas Eve or  New Year's Eve. Or both!

We're thrilled to have Nina Buty & Buty Winery joining The Fireside team for the  Buty Wine Dinner  on January 20th. This will event will be the kick off to a year of fantastic events at the Resort. Pretty delicious way to start the year!

Groups & Events.
"Thank you for everything you did to help make our business planning retreat a success! We all loved our stay there, and truly enjoyed all of the wonderful food and hospitality that was extended to us. All the staff were gracious and warm and the event were fun, too, from the tasting dinners to the Top Chef competition (my team won!) to the lovely meeting room and food provided. The guest rooms were very charming, too, and we appreciated the added amenities you provided. Everyone in our group agrees it was the perfect venue for us! You made it all very easy, and I can't wait to return whether for business or pleasure!"

What People Are Saying...
A Great Choice...
"Let's face it, there are not a lot of good restaurants around this area...plenty of good restaurants, but few great ones. This one is great. The setting is wonderful, right on the water. Many of the tables have window seats, but even the rest seem to have views of the windows. The staff hustles and smiles a lot. But the real stand-out for this restaurant is the food. We are seafood fans, and could not resist the Coho salmon stuffed with Dungeness crab. I subbed the cauliflower for the potatoes and they were very accommodating. The prices are not low, but the food is worth it. We will be back again!"

"Thank you for an amazing offsite. The team had such a great time. Great feedback from everyone. Thank you again, and you guys are totally on my list to spread around to other groups!"

Great Day...
"GREAT first day. Everything is going well thus far, And my room is AMAZING...although this only our second retreat in our history as a company it was sooooo much better than the first! We are excited to return."

Absolutely Beautiful...
"This resort is absolutely beautiful and we were incredibly impressed with the quality of the rooms and the view of the marina. We visited for the weekend from Seattle to celebrate our anniversary and had an incredible dinner at the restaurant downstairs. We loved the giant tub, which opened to view the fireplace in the room. We also loved the shampoos, soaps, and bath salts that were provided complimentary. The front desk staff was very friendly upon check in and housekeeping was also very accommodating during our stay. We will definitely be back to explore the rest of the resort, including the golf course and various water activities. Highly recommended."
