Happenings at the Resort...August 2016
Greetings from Port Ludlow -

Vibrant. Vibrancy.

Summer colors are vibrant.  Just look around at the vegetables, the berries, the flowers - all bright and perky.
Chimacum Valley is experiencing VIBRANCY...and boy, oh boy, is that something to cheer about!  Congratulations to our friends at Finnriver for the explosion of community at the Finnriver Orchard.  We are thrilled to see the hard work and smart vision coming together - and hope you will make time to visit there too if you have not already.
We are also pretty jazzed about what is going on this month with the Jefferson County Chamber and the Port Ludlow "Business Conversations" group - what FUN it will be on August 25th when the "boat in" and lawn movies take place.
And it is a special time in the life of the Wooden Boat Festival as this is the 40th Anniversary.  We will, once again, offer a complimentary shuttle from the Marina to Port Townsend throughout the weekend. It is on a first come, first served basis - so, please plan accordingly.

Our "resident blogger" - Kaitlin is at it again. This time it is all about a  Beach walk with the Port Townsend Marine Science Center. This is a really fun way to spend some time and learn a bit too!

And don't miss out on our "Hot Rates" - an August Summer Special. Monday - Thursday ( 8/8-8/11, 8/15-8/18, and 8/22-8/25 only) enjoy accommodations in one of our beautifully appointed guest rooms for 30% off our best available rate. Book online using the Package ID: "DEALS" or call 360-437-7000.

Marina.
Beach & Boat-In Movie Night is coming up soon on Thursday, August 25th. Come watch Disney's "UP" with us at the Marina on the lawn or anchor out and watch the movie from the comfort of your boat. Enjoy hot air balloon rides (wind dependent), a balloon decorating contest, henna, and more. For updates and more information, visit the Movie Night Facebook Page

Next month marks the 40th Annual Wooden Boat Festival in Port Townsend. (THAT was the year of the bicentennial - where were you in 1976?) The Marina will be offering a complimentary shuttle to and from the festival. Click here to view the shuttle schedule.

How cool is this? Last month a historical anchor was kindly donated to the Port Ludlow community by the Black family. The anchor belonged to the ship the "Reaper" which caught fire in 1906 at the Port Ludlow mill dock. Over the course of two days the boat burned herself out. In the 1960s, two Port Ludlow men were scuba diving in Ludlow Bay and retrieved the anchor from the Reaper. The historical anchor is now displayed outside the Marina store. Can you just imagine what life was like then?
Inn.
Lots of new and exciting happenings at The Fireside. With awards, upcoming events, new menus, and retail products..there's something for everyone.

The Resort is honored to be a recipient of Wine Spectator's Best of Award of Excellence for the 5th year in a row. Congratulations to The Fireside team for their hard work and dedication.

Coming up on September 14th, the Cork & Canvas event will be hosted on the veranda at The Fireside by the Port Ludlow Artists' League. Join Marti Marthis (this is one of her paintings below) and learn to paint while enjoying a glass of wine and snacks and walk away from the evening with your own art.   Call The Fireside for reservations - $40 per person includes the art materials, instruction and snacks/wine for inspiration, 360-437-7412.
Then on October 21st, enjoy the Silver City Brewmaster Dinner and on November 4th join us for the J.Bookwalter Wine Dinner and Tiny Library Dedication.

The Fireside recently introduced the new summer menus and a brand new kids menu. The kids menu was chosen by children who had the opportunity to be a chef for the day. They tasted a wide selection of menu items and picked their favorites for the new menu. The kids drew pictures of the food and the dishes were named after them.  Pretty sophisticated tastes - and the ROOT BEER FLOAT was a unanimous winner!

One of the "can't miss" items for The Fireside is Chef Dan's Granola.  You can enjoy it at breakfast - and NOW you can purchase it to take with you from our retail area in the lobby. (available after August 1st...) It comes in two sizes, makes a terrific "hiking" staple and you'll want to take some home with you too.  This is the first of several items we will begin packaging - next up is the dog biscuits - and stay tuned for the olive tapenade.

What They're Saying...
Dine Al Fresco on the Patio
"Sometimes you just want to enjoy a soup on a beachfront patio of a really nice restaurant and lazily watch the activity of the local marina. The Fireside Restaurant is just the place to do this. Soup and service were both great."

Fantastic Anniversary  Destination
"The Resort is a relaxing getaway in beautiful Port Ludlow! We enjoyed a sail on the Lady Washington tall ship then savored a delicious dinner and perfectly paired bottle of wine at the resort's restaurant. The resort is not large which we appreciate. The grounds are rustic but the amenities are modern and comfortable. We loved our stay and look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries there!"

Spur of the Moment Surprises  Make for Lasting Memories
"In early July we headed out for a drive to the Olympic Peninsula to view some waterfront cottages as a possible retirement living site. Afterwards we enjoyed lunch on the patio of the Fireside Restaurant. At the end of lunch I noticed a special offer to stay at the resort. We have been guests at the resort before and have enjoyed the opportunity to relax amid sea air and casual walks on the beach. This offer was too good to pass up. We immediately walked from the restaurant to the front desk, maybe no more than 30 steps. Because the resort is not far from the greater Seattle area, we booked two nights starting the next day. We went home and got everything in order to enjoy ourselves for the next three days away from our own housekeeping. We were not disappointed. We even had the opportunity to take the last two seats at a winemaker's dinner that was most memorable. Moral of this story is to sign up for regular communication from your favorite destinations because you may find opportunities that are too good to pass up. We signed up for the Stash Rewards program so we can do the same at other similar proprieties in that portfolio. We also shared the flash sale information with relatives and they came to join us for part of our stay."
