daylight savingSpring Forward this Weekend

Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, so remember to change your clocks on Saturday night. We wouldn't want you to miss out on all the great things we have going on at Topeka First United Methodist Church this Sunday morning.

Searching for a Director of Children's Discipleship

We need your help to find our new Director of Children's Discipleship. Are you connected with an organization, like a parenting club or a PTO, where there might be someone who is looking for a job working with children? Maybe you know someone with a teaching degree who is looking for something outside of the classroom, or a stay-at-home mom or dad who is looking to go back to work. We invite you to send this link to our job posting to anyone who might be interested, share it on social media, and post it on community message boards for preschools, playgroups, and other organizations where you are a member. We trust that God will provide us with the right person, but we need your help to get the word out!

Downtown Connection Week

March 11-18 is our next Downtown Connection Week! The First Church Downtown Engagement Team  invites you to patronize a downtown area shop or restaurant to show our church's support for our community. This time, we have cards for you to give to the proprietors of the businesses to let  them know we appreciate all they do for our neighborhood. The card has room for a brief message of thanks, encouragement, or appreciation. For instance, when you tip your waiter you can also write a note to the manager thanking them for the great dining experience. If you enjoyed shopping at a boutique, you can leave a note for the small business owner with the cashier. And of course, wear your First Church apparel when you go downtown!

You might want to make arrangements to accomplish this with your First Church friends. We encourage you to take a photo and send it to Jayna McFarland, Publications Coordinator. You may also upload your photo to our Google Photo album.

Where should you go?

These cards will be inserted in your bulletin this Sunday so you can leave a friendly note to a downtown business during Downtown Connection Week.
Church T-shirts It's Time to Order New Church Shirts!

You may now order a shirt with our new church logo! Reliant Apparel, a downtown Topeka business, has designed T-shirts, polo shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, and jackets for our members to wear when we are out in the community. You may visit our Web Store at ReliantApparel.com to view the products and place your order, or visit the T-Shirt table in the Celebration Room on March 12, 19, & 26th. You must place your online order by March 31st. After that day, our web store will be taken down. All orders (web and in person) will be delivered to the church, and will be available for pick up on April 9th.

Name Tags are Coming, Too!

Many of our members have inquired about ordering new name tags with our logo, so they can wear them to "advertise" our church when they go to events out in the community and on Sunday mornings. Stay tuned for more information!

Technology graphic Men's Group Technology Workshop and Volunteer Opportunity on March 11th

Men are invited to a Tech Session with the FUMC Men's Group on Saturday, March 11th at 7:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall . Craig Selley and Tina Boles will be there to help you load the Church Life app onto your smartphone, tablet, and/or laptop. Coffee and donuts will be provided.

Following the Tech Session, the Men's Group will host a water station near 6th & Harrison for the IrishFest 5k run and walk at 9 a.m. to reinforce our church's commitment to downtown Topeka. Please consider coming to the Tech Session then helping with the Run afterwards.

worship Order Your Easter Lilies

If you would like to dedicate an Easter lily in honor or in memory of a loved one, fill out the form you will find in your bulletin this Sunday. Lilies are $10 each, and will be placed in the Chapel and Sanctuary on Easter, with the dedications listed in the bulletin insert. After this Sunday, you may pick up a form from the front desk. Order forms must be turned in by Sunday, April 2nd.

Our new church T-shirts will be ready in time for the race, which is on April 22nd, so we can represent our community spirit as a church family!

New Photo Directory in the Works

We have had so many new faces join the First Church Family in recent months, and we want to give you the opportunity to put names with these faces! Lifetouch will be taking photos for our new church pictorial directory on several dates in early May and in early June. Each family will receive a complimentary 8x10 portrait and free directory for participating. We hope you will choose to be a part of our family album and make it complete. Enjoy Your Lenten Devotionals

May everyone enjoy the 2017 Lenten Meditation Booklet and find the daily contributions by our church friends helpful in guiding your personal meditation throughout the Lenten Season!  We expect one or more of these meditations will strike a responsive chord during the 47 days of Lent. When it does, take the time and the initiative to seek those who wrote it and tell them you appreciated their contribution.

I wish to publicly extend my appreciation to these 48 writers who volunteered or accepted my invitation to write their thoughtful meditation for one of the days leading up to Easter Sunday.  Kudos to Tina Boles for creating the cover design as well as her and the church staff for printing the 450 copies needed. A tremendous "thank you" goes to the Wesley Weds adult Sunday school class for folding, assembling and stapling the booklets for you.

As recruiter for and editor of this and the 2018 booklet, I request you consider contributing a meditation for the booklet next year.  Recruiting will begin very soon. Volunteer now; don't wait to be recruited.

Stephen Ministry has purchased this helpful new book and put it in our church library. It is written in a warm, conversational style that covers the wide range of issues a cancer diagnosis brings. Check it out!

Phase 2 is inviting everyone to help spruce up the church grounds for the spring on Saturday, April 1st , 9 a.m.-12 p.m. with lunch following in the Celebration Room. You may email Tiwana or sign up on the Phase 2 board in the Celebration Room if you'd like to help out.

Ministry Get to Know Your Stephen Ministers

Introducing two of your Stephen Ministers, Beth Evans and Kimberly Scamardo, who have given one-on-one Christian care to members of our congregation.

Beth Evans

My social work background and spending a lifetime in the church have prepared me to be a Stephen Minister. Being a Stephen Minister is one way I can give back the comfort and support I received when I experienced the loss of my husband, and it has helped me listen and focus more on spiritual comfort than on finding solutions.

Kimberly Scamardo

Life experiences and the desire to help others have helped me express Christ's love through Stephen Ministry. I have learned to actively listen and pray for a "sister in Christ" as she walks through a difficult time.

March Mission Focus

The Missions Team food collection focus for the month of March is grocery bags of needed items for Doorstep. If you missed the bag handouts last Sunday, you can still pick up a bag with a list of requested items at church. Please return your filled grocery bag by the end of the month.

YOUTH
Spring Break is almost here...check your March schedule to be in the know.

HIGH SCHOOL Senior Sunday
I've had several questions about this event. Letters will go out mid-March to Seniors with information about what is needed for this special day on May 21st. Be assured plans have already been underway for this occasion.

Youth are asking...
Will there be a youth egg hunt this year? Plans are under way for that, as well, and will be in your April Schedule.

Youth It's always nice when our college students drop into class to help. That's Cooper right there in the mix of our students. Thanks Cooper.
