Summer Sunday Symposiums

This summer, there will be speakers at the 9:30 hour in Fellowship Hall on featured Sunday mornings. As most adult classes take a break for the summer, this is a time to reconnect in fellowship and learning.  There will be no symposiums on June 25 or July 2. Watch for details for our next speaker on July 9th!

Swimming Party at Garfield Pool
This Friday!

Bring a friend and enjoy the evening swimming and spending time with your church family at the Garfield Family Aquatic Center, 1600 NE Quincy, absolutely free! All ages are welcome.

We will have the pool all to ourselves this Friday, June 23rd 6-8 p.m.  The church will provide water and juice packs. Bring a simple finger food snack (that won't melt) to share, if you wish. Come ready for a time of fellowship and fun! If you prefer not to swim, we still invite you to join the party. Just bring a lawn chair and sit by the pool to get in some good visiting time with your friends.

It's That Time Again - Downtown CONNECTion Week!
June 24 - July 1

June 24th-July 1st is our next scheduled time to show our excitement in being Topeka's Downtown Church by patronizing downtown restaurants and retailers. In addition to wearing your Topeka First UMC apparel, you'll have the opportunity to leave a "thank you" note on a church-provided post card. The cards will be again be distributed at church this Sunday, June 25.

Many of you might already be downtown during that week as you volunteer or take your kids to VBS. That would be a great time to grab a cup of coffee or run an errand downtown. Maybe you have a summer anniversary...our downtown has several boutiques that sell flowers, jewelry, and chocolate (hint, hint). You can even find gifts for all those summer birthdays and weddings, or have T-shirts made for your family reunion! See where we're going with this? You might be surprised at all the great things downtown Topeka has to offer. Any time you choose to spend your money downtown, you are making community support a priority.

And remember to wear your church apparel at the Freedom Festival on Saturday, July 1!

Missions Last Sunday for JEANS IN JUNE
Men's Blue Jeans Mission for Doorstep
Sponsored by Topeka First UMC Men

The mountain of jeans is growing each week, as we collect this wardrobe staple for the men in our community.  Men's jeans are a particularly difficult need to fill. As we partner with Doorstep on this mission project, keep in mind that all  conditions and sizes of men's jeans are welcome.  You  may add your donations to the mountain through the end of this month.
Let's be part of the Freedom Festival in Downtown!

Saturday, July 1st is the second annual Rotary Freedom Festival. Last year we demonstrated our commitment to our role as "the" downtown church by helping greet and direct attendees to all the exciting activities.

This year the event will be bigger and better, and we've been asked once again to help make it a great experience for everyone. Here are the requests:

Youth
Youth left for Baton Rouge early Sunday morning. They are working on three houses this week for families displaced by flooding. They are working hard, along with a youth group from Ft Worth. Wednesday is their day off, but they have plans to spend time at a women and children's shelter doing chalk art, bubbles, and games with the children. Surely the presence of the Lord is with our group. Won't you pray for them as they complete their week in Baton Rouge being the hands and feet of Jesus? You can attend their presentation on July 30 in Fellowship Hall at 9:30 a.m.
