Summer Office Hours

The church office is now open Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We are closed on Fridays.

Summer Sunday Symposiums

This summer, there will be speakers at the 9:30 hour in Fellowship Hall on featured Sunday mornings. As most adult classes take a break for the summer, this is a time to reconnect in fellowship and learning.

This Sunday, June 18,  member Devin Morrison, who is a student at Washburn, will share about spending her spring semester traveling the world by ship with Semester at Sea. Come see and hear of her travels to Japan, South Africa, Myanmar, Germany, and the other countries she explored.

There will be no symposiums on June 25 or July 2. Watch for details for our next speaker on July 9th!

Senior Summer Caravan

Arrangements have been made for our members to tour some of the local retirement communities this summer. We will take a tour, then enjoy a complimentary lunch in their dining areas. There will not be a sales pitch. This is just a time to look around and gain information. These are the next available tours:
  • Thursday, June 22nd, 11 a.m.
    • Lexington Park~Independent Living (1011 SW Cottonwood, across from the main entrance of Gage Park off of 10th St.)
      • Meet at 11 a.m. in their entry way
  • Wednesday, July 12, 11 a.m.
    • Legend at Capital Ridge (west of the mall), tour followed by lunch. Transportation from the church available, if needed.

Swimming Party at Garfield Pool

Bring a friend and enjoy the evening swimming and spending time with your church family at the Garfield Family Aquatic Center, 1600 NE Quincy, absolutely free! All ages are welcome.

We will have the pool all to ourselves on Friday, June 23rd 6-8 p.m.  The church will provide water and juice packs. Bring a simple finger food snack (that won't melt) to share, if you wish. Come ready for a time of fellowship and fun! If you prefer not to swim, we still invite you to join the party. Just bring a lawn chair and sit by the pool to get in some good visiting time with your friends.

Meeting friends for lunch is a fun way to support a downtown business! Be sure to leave a downtown connection card, available at church this Sunday.
It's That Time Again - Downtown CONNECTion Week!
June 24 - July 1

June 24th-July 1st is our next scheduled time to show our excitement in being Topeka's Downtown Church by patronizing downtown restaurants and retailers. In addition to wearing your Topeka First UMC apparel, you'll have the opportunity to leave a "thank you" note on a church-provided post card. The cards will be distributed at church this Sunday, June 18.

Many of you might already be downtown during that week as you volunteer or take your kids to VBS. That would be a great time to grab a cup of coffee or run an errand downtown. Maybe you have a summer anniversary...our downtown has several boutiques that sell flowers, jewelry, and chocolate (hint, hint). You can even find gifts for all those summer birthdays and weddings, or have T-shirts made for your family reunion! See where we're going with this? You might be surprised at all the great things downtown Topeka has to offer. Any time you choose to spend your money downtown, you are making community support a priority.

And remember to wear your church apparel at the Freedom Festival on Saturday, July 1!

Missions JEANS IN JUNE
Men's Blue Jeans Mission for Doorstep
Sponsored by Topeka First UMC Men

The mountain of jeans is growing each week, as we collect this wardrobe staple for the men in our community.  Men's jeans are a particularly difficult need to fill. As we partner with Doorstep on this mission project, keep in mind that all  conditions and sizes of men's jeans are welcome.  You  may add your donations to the mountain throughout the month of June.

Let's be part of the Freedom Festival in Downtown!

Saturday, July 1st is the second annual Rotary Freedom Festival. Last year we demonstrated our commitment to our role as "the" downtown church by helping greet and direct attendees to all the exciting activities.

This year the event will be bigger and better, and we've been asked once again to help make it a great experience for everyone. Here are the requests:
Please sign up to be part of this exciting day downtown!

IT'S ALMOST HERE...the Youth Summer Mission Trip to Baton Rouge!
A group of 21 will leave early Sunday morning and return the following Saturday evening. Would you pray for this group as they embark on a week of service to the community of Baton Rouge who have suffered from flooding? They will have a week filled with repairing homes of flood victims, fellowship, devotions, sightseeing and socializing with youth groups from other states. They will eat Louisiana cuisine and take a supply of knitter critters to give to children they meet at work sites.

Thank you to Sandra Rak for knitting the critters for us, and to Cindy Naeger for making them come alive with stuffing, eyes and ribbon. They are truly a unique gift that children love. The week will surely be a blessing to the community and to our youth. The group will stay at First United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge during the week, and will visit the Hope Community Center for fried catfish on Thursday evening. They will also get to experience a Cajun Band, jambalaya, and gumbo. Everyone will be invited to attend the mission trip presentation on Sunday, July 30 at 9:30 a.m. in Fellowship Hall to see how the week went.

Thank you to all of you who have joined the prayer chain for my daughter as she experienced some complications in labor and delivery last week. The baby girl is healthy, but the mom still needs your prayers for healing as we enter week two of the complications. We appreciate your support.

The heat and wind didn't deter youth from coming out to enjoy a game of putt putt with our college interns, Hannah and Kira.
