Community Fun at Bridge 2 Bridge

Last year our members enjoyed running and walking in downtown Topeka's Bridge 2 Bridge 5K. We encourage you to join in the fun and participate in this event with your fellow church members. Our new church T-shirts will be ready in time for the race, which is the morning of April 22nd, so we can represent our community spirit as a church family! As you make plans to participate, send a quick note to Marsha Oliver so we can coordinate a meeting spot to take a "team" photo and run/walk as a group (if you like). Register for the race, circle April 22nd on your calendar, and look forward to a fun morning downtown with your church family!

Being the Church for the Next Generation

Pastor Jeff invites all to join in a 3-part intergenerational conversation on how the church can best connect all generations. These conversations will take place immediately after the 11 a.m. worship service (around noon) on April 23rd, April 30th, and May 7th. Lunch will be provided. Sign up on our Member Access portal or call the church office, 785-233-8100, if you'd like to participate.

Searching for a Director of Children's Discipleship

We need your help to find our new Director of Children's Discipleship. Are you connected with an organization, like a parenting club or a PTO, where there might be someone who is looking for a job working with children? Maybe you know someone with a teaching degree who is looking for something outside of the classroom, or a stay-at-home mom or dad who is looking to go back to work. We invite you to send this link to our job posting to anyone who might be interested, share it on social media, and post it on community message boards for preschools, playgroups, and other organizations where you are a member. We trust that God will provide us with the right person, but we need your help to get the word out!

Miracle Sunday Total
We are already seeing the benefits from our Miracle Sunday giving. Your gifts, totaling $ 357,543.60, have allowed us to begin the maintenance and restoration of our bells and schedule the important work on our organ. We also have a team making big plans to improve our worship technology. We will keep you updated as new developments come through.
Volunteers Needed for Condolence Lunches

When a memorial service for one of our members is held in our church, a group of volunteers will often serve a condolence lunch for the family and friends of the deceased. This Saturday, April 8th, we could use a few more volunteers to help serve the luncheon for Jeanne Johnson. Volunteers will serve salads and desserts from 11:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. If you can help out, please email Doris Wills or call her at 785-272-1850. If you are not available this weekend, but would be interested in helping with a condolence lunch in the future, Doris would be happy to add you to our list of volunteers for this comforting ministry.

mitten Thank You for Keeping Topeka Kids Warm

This note was sent the church earlier this year:

"Thank you for the generous donation of hats and mittens to State Street Elementary. We appreciate your thoughtfulness."

Dana Martin and State Street Staff

Thanks to all who participated in this practical expression of love for our neighbors.

April Mission Focus

In April, the Missions Team is collecting protein bars for Topeka North Outreach. Please bring your donations to the receptacle in the Celebration Room.

Ministry Get to Know Your Stephen Ministers

Introducing your Stephen Minister, Marge Whelpley, who has given one-on-one Christian care to members of our congregation.

I have always loved getting to know people. Every person is unique. Going through the Stephen Ministry classes and being an active Stephen Minister have given me a fresh insight into people and their needs. Knowing that the Holy Spirit is beside us when my Care Receiver and I meet is totally awesome!

Community Effort Beautifies Church Grounds

Saturday was a great intergenerational work day on the church grounds. About 20 people from our church family came out to remove the existing landscaping from around the building, clean up trash, sweep sidewalks, and take care of any general spring cleaning before Easter Sunday.  Hopefully, if the weather cooperates, we will have beautiful new landscaping in time for Easter.  A special thanks to our Phase 2 group for organizing this event.

Look for a more inviting atmosphere, as the old landscaping is torn out and new is planted.

New Children's Sunday School Check-in!

We have a new check-in procedure for Children's Sunday School. Check-in is now in the Celebration Room. Melissa Evans will be stationed at the wooden kiosk at the northeast corner of the Celebration Room, and kiddos will be checked in via computer. A nametag will be printed for each child, and the parent will receive a corresponding label. This parental label will contain unique identifying numbers for each of the children they will be picking up, and must be presented in each room to pick up your children.

We've moved the check-in to the main floor since we have children attending Sunday School on both floors of the Mulvane Building. We are grateful to the Children's Renovation Team for this more secure and streamlined process that interfaces directly with ACS.

Scholarships for Summer Camps

Sometimes the early bird really DOES get the worm! The United Methodist Women want to encourage our children and youth at the church to participate in one of the summer camps at Chippewa or the Institute at Baker University. The camps themselves offer an early bird discount of $20 and the women will offer scholarships for anyone who fills out our camp form. The early bird registration deadline is May 1st. The scholarship is for youth or children who fills out the form by April 23. You can learn more about the camps by clicking here.

SO, you'll want to look at your busy summer calendars and decide soon if one of the many fun weeks offered is something you want to do. Camp information and the scholarship form are available at the front desk and upstairs at the children's table. We will take all of the forms turned in by April 23rd and divide up the funds available.

Turn in your scholarship forms to the front desk by April 23rd.
