David's Thoughts
God is the Answer!
Sunday, June 19, 10:00 AM

For the past few days I have struggled with what to say in the aftermath of the deadliest mass shooting in United States history which happened in Orlando over the weekend.

How do I respond? How do we respond in the wake of events such as this?

More importantly, what is the answer? What can we do to prevent such tragic events?

Many social media posts from my friends express pain and anger, especially because this particular attack was directed toward LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) people. As a gay man, I understand the outrage and despair that many have expressed. I also appreciate the love and support from family, friends and community who stand in solidarity with us.

More than a few of those posts blame the hate speech that comes from the leaders of traditional religions and sects within those religions. My friends who are angry and in pain are calling for these leaders to end their words of condemnation against LGBT people, words that can incite violent action such as this. Many of us have been the targets of this condemnation and have felt the pain of being denied a place within traditional religion.

I applaud my brothers and sisters who stand for the inclusion of LGBT people within traditional religious institutions. When more of our faith communities begin to acknowledge and accept all people as equal children of God there will be less fear of those who are different; therefore, less violence, whether in thought, word or action. And, still I wonder, is that the answer?

Special Musical Guest  Anne Achenbach
Sunday, June 19th 10:00 AMsoloist

Anne Achenbach is our featured soloist this Sunday.

Many of you know her from her years at Mile Hi Church out in Lakewood, and a few of you may even remember her from the
"good ole days" out at the Country Dinner Playhouse! She performed leading lady roles in many productions there over the years,
including "Camelot", "The Music Man", "Showboat" and "Nunsense", just to name a few.

Anne has an album for sale in the bookstore today called "The Gift", a compilation of fun Broadway tunes, Gospel hymns, inspirational
message songs and even a few original compositions Anne wrote and arranged herself.

Better known as "Annie", she would like you to know that Unity of Denver is the very first New Thought church she ever attended. Her
beloved mother brought her to this church back in 1970, and she has been a recovering German-Lutheran ever since!

Environment Ministry Update enviromentalministry

We will begin composting soon and switching from our normal paper plates to a higher quality compostable paper plate. We will also be switching out the Styrofoam coffee cups for a compostable paper cup. We're hoping the Environment Ministry will be able to help us roll out some education to our congregation. If this is something that interests you, please let us know.

Reusable Bulletins
In addition, in our effort to care for the planet, we have introduced a
NEW BULLETIN FORMAT. Our intention is for the outer shell to be reusable from week to week. In our effort to save paper and ink, we hope to use the same cover for at least one month. If you do not wish to take it home with you, please return it to the basket at the entry door to the sanctuary. However, please feel free to take notes on the back in the space provided and keep it for your reference. The insert will list upcoming classes, workshops and other events.

CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Ongoing Tai' Chi Gung Class
Thursday Class
 7:00 - 8:00 PM
TaiChiGung
A 5-week Monday Morning Tai Chi Gung class is beginning on
Monday, June 20th  from 10:00 - 10:45
followed by a meditation from 11:00 - 11:45 AM.

Do you want to make your spiritual life physical?

Tai Chi Gung is sometimes called the "simple yoga". It features fluid breathing and graceful moving exercises that build stamina, relieve stress, improve balance, speed recovery from injury, strengthen the immune system, foster peace of mind and develop mental focus. This gentle, ancient system of health and longevity from Tibet has been passed down in an unbroken lineage from the original Master Boganathar, known in China as the sage Lao Tzu for 3000 years.

Can the Infinite Abundance in your mind be in your body as well?

Tai Chi Gung includes a series of simple standing exercises that help people connect to the energy of the life force in nature consciously. It is an ancient art and science that shows students how to draw, store, project and release the chi through their spirit, mind and physical body; gradually returning it to the perfect image in which it was originally created ... manifesting good on earth as it is in heaven.

Facilitated by  Rev. Phyllis Hoover, ThD on a love-offering basis.

HEALTH & WHOLENESS EVENTS
 HealthWholeness
For the remainder of the year, Unity Spiritual Center Denver is pleased to present events, classes and a series of workshops which will focus on ideas of individual Health and Wholeness. Our Unity perspective views Wholeness as the fundamental Reality of each person. In order to demonstrate wholeness in mind and body, we need to understand that we are seeking to express the eternal, Divine Idea called Life. This Idea is the pure potential or pattern for wholeness that attains form through our individual consciousness.

Like Wholeness, Health is a Principle that underlies and pervades everything. In the Absolute, Health is an aspect of the truth of What we are. It is not something that is imposed from without; Health expresses from within consciousness as we keep our thoughts centered on the Principle of Life. As Unity co-founder, Charles Fillmore states "Health is the normal condition of humankind and of all creation.  Health...is as universal and enduring as God."

The Saturday workshops include the following:

June 4 - Forgiveness
July 9 - Food Awareness I
August 6- Food Awareness II
September 10 -  Meditation I
October 1 - Meditation II
November - Science and Spirituality
December 3 - to be announced

ARE YOU ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTING TO
Unity Spiritual Center Denver?

We recently learned that if you have a zero balance on your re-loadable for Unity King Soopers card for 30 days or longer, it is no longer connected to the payback program.

While you can still re-load your card as usual, it is no longer connected to Unity of Denver, and thus, does not contribute to our  payback program.
The only way to rectify this is to purchase another $10 card in our bookstore, and be sure to use it once a month.

NOT SURE... if your card is still active in the payback program, please email the office with the serial number on the back of your card for confirmation.

If you don't have a card, they are available in the bookstore for $10. *This initial $10 is available for use at any King Soopers.  You can reload it thereafter and use it just like cash and Unity Spiritual Center Denver will receive 5% of your total purchase.
This program has been a good source of income for us in the past!
