This morning, as I sat on my meditation cushion, I thought "Today is Monday." Immediately, concepts that I associate with 'Monday' began to arise in my consciousness; thoughts such as "my day off," "start of a new week," and "I got to sleep late." I then realized that 'Monday' is a mental construct and that I decide for myself what it means. Granted, to some extent we, the human race, have a shared meaning for many mental constructs such as the day of the week, calendar year and time of day. They help us function together in a somewhat orderly fashion. Yet, on a personal level each of us determines how we operate within these structures. This seemingly small Monday morning realization opened me to a greater awareness of how often I limit myself by the meaning I assign to certain concepts, especially the ones I use to define myself and my world. My guess is that I am not alone.

These meanings become habituated and embedded in our minds. They form the ego structure which most often dominates our lives. Many, if not most of us live within this structure without being conscious of it. The ego structure becomes our comfort zone. We derive a sense of safety and security from these familiar mental constructs.
We operate under the false belief that, within this structure of clearly defined meanings, we have some control. However...

Musical Guest -  Anne Achenbach

Lauren Shealy

Anne Achenbach is our featured soloist on Sunday.
Many of you know her from her years at Mile Hi Church out in Lakewood, and a few of you may even remember her from the
"good ole days" out at the Country Dinner Playhouse! She performed leading lady roles in many productions there over the years,
including "Camelot",
"The Music Man", "Showboat"
and "Nunsense",
just to name a few.

Anne has an album for sale in the bookstore called
"The Gift", a compilation of fun Broadway tunes, Gospel hymns, inspirational
message songs and even a few original compositions Anne wrote and arranged herself.

Better known as "Annie", she would like you to know that Unity of Denver is the very first New Thought church she ever attended. Her
beloved mother brought her to this church back in 1970, and she has been a recovering German-Lutheran ever since!

Compassionate Communication
Facilitated by J Johnson & David HowardCCClasses

We are thrilled that so many have already participated in the Compassionate Communication training sessions offered at Unity Spiritual Center Denver, and we are excited to be offering another series of classes beginning March 1.

These classes are based on the life work and teachings of Marshall Rosenberg, founder of Nonviolent Communication.  J had the opportunity to learn and study directly with Marshall prior to his death last year.
Both J and David have studied and practiced Compassionate Communication since 2004. It has improved ease, understanding and connection in their relationship, as well as relationships with family, friends, co-workers and colleagues.

Compassionate Communication is a way of relating to ourselves and others in the present moment, free of past reactions.  In this way, it becomes a spiritual practice, with ever-deepening possibilities for living in greater integrity with our values and creating a quality of connection that gets everyone's needs met through compassionate giving.

Ongoing Tai' Chi Gung Class
Thursdays 7:00 - 8:00 pm
TaiChiGung

Do you want to make your spiritual life physical?

Tai Chi Gung is sometimes called the "simple yoga". It features fluid breathing and graceful moving exercises that build stamina, relieve stress, improve balance, speed recovery from injury, strengthen the immune system, foster peace of mind and develop mental focus. This gentle, ancient system of health and longevity from Tibet has been passed down in an unbroken lineage from the original Master Boganathar, known in China as the sage Lao T zu for 3000 years.

Can the Infinite Abundance in your mind be in your body as well?

Tai Chi Gung includes a series of simple standing exercises that help people connect to the energy of the life force in nature consciously. It is an ancient art and science that shows students how to draw, store, project and release the chi through their spirit, mind and physical body; gradually returning it to the perfect image in which it was originally created ... manifesting good on earth as it is in heaven.

Facilitated by  Rev. Phyllis Hoover, ThD on a love-offering basis.

Y.O.U. Service Project

Most of us experience some sort of internal struggle when we see a person standing on the corner begging for money or food. We often ask ourselves, "Should I give them money or not? Do I make eye contact or look away? If I give them money  will they use it for food or alcohol or drugs? Is giving them money going to do any good?" brownbagblessings

It truly is "The Season of Wonder" and our Y.O.U. has created a powerful answer to support you and our Denver area community.

"Brown Bag Blessings" are bags filled with items such as socks, hats, gloves, granola bars, beef jerky, water, shampoo that are kept in your car, so when you have this encounter you have something to offer. These bags will be ready for distribution the on February 21st.

How can you partner with us?
We are seeking donations  (see the box in the lobby for a complete list of items needed), both physical and monetary, along with corporate sponsorship.
Do you own or have a business contact that would like to support this project?  Letters, for potential company support, are also available in the lobby.

We are excited to announce that Unity Spiritual Center Denver will partner with Family Promise of Greater Denver as a host the week of   March 27- April 3, 2016.

Family Promise of Greater Denver offers hope and assistance to help homeless families once again achieve self-sufficiency. Support provided includes goal setting, parenting skills, money management, and help with locating housing and employment. They help children and their families realize positive outcomes that lead to greater self-sufficiency.
The mission of Family Promise is to   end homelessness one family at a time .

Our intention is to be a Host Congregation which includes providing housing and meals at our building for one week intervals three to four times per year, as well as other support services. This will require a commitment of time and energy from many caring and compassionate sacred servers (aka volunteers). There is a role you can fill.

We are still in need of event coordinators for the following roles:
-           Evening Host/Dinner Coordinator
-          Set-up/Take-down Coordinator
-          Overnight Host Coordinator

ARE YOU ACTUALLY CONTRIBUTING TO
Unity Spiritual Center Denver?

We recently learned that if you have a zero balance on your re-loadable for Unity King Soopers card for 30 days or longer, it is no longer connected to the payback program.

While you can still re-load your card as usual, it is no longer connected to Unity of Denver, and thus, does not contribute to our  payback program.
The only way to rectify this is to purchase another $10 card in our bookstore, and be sure to use it once a month.

NOT SURE... if your card is still active in the payback program, please email the office with the serial number on the back of your card for confirmation.

If you don't have a card, they are available in the bookstore for $10. *This initial $10 is available for use at any King Soopers.  You can reload it thereafter and use it just like cash and Unity Spiritual Center Denver will receive 5% of your total purchase.
This program has been a good source of income for us in the past!
