In today's ArtMail, we celebrate poetry through the stories of two young people, Sam Boudreau and Michaela Coplen; both are passionate about keeping poetry at the center of our culture. More events are listed below left. Get out this month and take part!

secured his title as Vermont Poetry Out Loud state champion. On April 29, Sam will go to Washington, D.C.to participate in the national competition. Congratulations to Sam and Elizabeth Cummin, the state runner-up. Find out more about Poetry Out Loud.
National Student Poet to Visit Vermont
Michaela Coplen is only 18, but the poetry of this Carlisle, PA high school senior shows depth and competence beyond her years. Michaela will visit Vermont on April 10 - 12 as part of a year-long tenure as a National Student Poet. On Friday, April 11, at 9:30 a.m. Michaela will present the

Devotional at Vermont State House. During her visit, she will also visit the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for women in South Burlington, lead  a workshop at local high school, and read with Vermont Poet Laureate Sydney Lea at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.

Young Vermonters Speak at National Arts Advocacy Day
Arts Council staffer Zon Eastes recently traveled to Washington D.C. to participate in National Arts Advocacy Day, presented each year by Americans for the Arts. Eastes visited the offices of Senators Leahy and Sanders and Representative Welch to
Rotunda of the Cannon House Office BuildingWashington, D.C.
thank them for their important support of the arts nationally and in Vermont. This year's visits were made all more powerful by the participation two young Vermonters, Matt Trollinger, East Montpelier, a graduate student in Public Administration at American University and  Kristen van Breen, Arlington, a graduate student at Columbia University. They were both fine advocates, speaking eloquently and passionately about how the arts and culture make a difference in Vermont communities.
Free Audience Building Workshop for Arts Organizations
On Monday, April 15, Matt Lehrman will present, Audiences Everywhere (TM), a workshop designed to help organizations learn new strategies for attracting and sustaining a loyal audience. This free event will be held at Burlington City Arts from 8:30 a.m to 11:30 a.m. Preregistration is required and can be completed here.

Art + Soul Call for Artists
Artists are invited to an Open House on April 16 to kick off the 2014 Art + Soul benefit. Created by Dunkiel Saunders, this project brings artists, musicians, nonprofits, and businesses together to celebrate and support the good work and creative spirit at the heart of art + soul our local community. This year, Art + Soul will benefit the Champlain Housing Trust. Artists are invited to submit works inspired by the non-profit's mission. All art will sold and proceeds split between the artists and the Champlain Housing Trust. Find out more about Art + Soul and how you can get involved.
