Director's Report...

Hello Chamber Members,

I'm hard at work recruiting existing businesses to join the Chamber of Commerce! At our last Board meeting, I shared a list of potential member businesses with our Board of Directors. I am asking you to look on our "Placemat of Chamber Members" to see if businesses you frequent are members of this organization. Please help us reach out in building our chamber of commerce membership.

We are always trying to encourage and support people who want to "take the leap" and go into business. The Chamber is partnering with Alcorn State University, Hinds Community College, and the Small Business Development Center of Mississippi to present a 10-week Entrepreneur Academy beginning Monday, September 29 at the Alcorn State University Expansion Center. Please contact the Chamber office for more information.

Lastly, we want to know you, so we can promote you! Please consider hosting a "Business After Hours," so that our business community will understand your business. After teaching marketing and salesmanship for 10 years, I know the importance of keeping people informed about what you offer. I hope to learn about every business in our Chamber of Commerce.

Vicksburg Young Professional SPOTLIGHT!

Cori Carraway is a Senior Environmental Specialist with the Regulatory Branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Vicksburg District. She recently completed the Vicksburg District's Leadership Development Program. This program seeks to foster the development of leadership and management skills of the Vicksburg District's current and future leaders and managers.

Cori is an active member of the Chamber of Commerce's Vicksburg Young Professionals (VYP) Group. She is currently serving as a social events coordinator for the VYP Group. She works daily to promote the VYP Group within the community through outreach and increased awareness among her peers. Her involvement has advanced the growth of the VYP Group. She also serves as a board member on her neighborhood's Homeowners Association. Her involvement within the community contributes to Vicksburg being an enjoyable place to live. She is a native of Vicksburg and a graduate of Mississippi State University. She is married to Bert Carraway, III, of Vicksburg. In her spare time, she enjoys shopping, spending time with family and friends, and being outdoors.
