WEP, Inc. began in 1978 as the Women's Employment Project with a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to create diverse employment opportunities for women with agricultural roots. Today, WEP, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides employment and home energy services to individuals and families in need in Door and Kewaunee counties.

Welcome to the inaugural edition of the WEP, Inc. Monthly Newsletter. While WEP, Inc. has been serving our community for over 35 years, there are many who do not know about the non-profit organization that houses the Door County Job Center, the Energy Assistance & Weatherization Programs and the Door County Transportation Options Program.  Read on to learn more about WEP, Inc. and all that we have to offer.
  Employment

Door County Job Center

 

WEP, Inc. is the organization that houses the Door County Job Center. Job seekers can utilize the resource room for the following:

  • Resume and application assistance
  • Computer and phone access for job searches
  • Educational classes for those looking for employment
    in today's competitive job market
  • Assisting local businesses in finding qualified workers
  • Local resources, labor market information and assessments of career interests and skills
  • Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding to assist with educational and occupational training

WEP, Inc. Job Center Resource Room 

Stop in and meet with a Job Center Employment Specialist at the WEP, Inc. Offices, located within the Cherry Point Mall. Enter the main entrance to the mall and continue straight ahead to the glass doors. The Employment Program area is to the right.  Visit the Door County Job Center website  for more information.

  Home Energy

Home Energy Plus ProgramWEP, Inc. is contracted with Door County Human Services to provide the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP) and the State of Wisconsin to provide the Door/Kewaunee Weatherization Program.  Program participants that are income eligible may qualifiy for the following:

  • Energy assistance for heat and electric bills
  • Furnace emergencies
  • Home Weatherization

    The WEP, Inc. Weatherization Crew are professionals in the area of energy conservation measures.

In addition WEP, Inc. professionals provide energy conservation tips and other services for households wishing to "Live Green, and Save Green."  Call the office to inquire about these services:

  • Home Energy Audits
  • Educational Information

Transportation
Door County Transportation Options (DCTOP)
DCTOP Program Coordinator, Nikki Voight and Fred Young
The Door County Transportation Options Program, (DCTOP) operated by WEP, Inc. assists Door and Kewaunee County residents in getting to work with reliable and dependable transportation.
  

DCTOP offers transportation services to ensure low-income individuals in Door and Kewaunee counties have dependable transportation to and from work. DCTOP offers 0% interest vehicle repair and purchase loans and maintains an employment van pool, which travels from Sturgeon Bay to northern Door. DCTOP also provides half-price gas vouchers.

 

From January through November 2012, DCTOP assisted 16 families with a loan and has given out over 80 gas vouchers. The van pool provided 854 shared trips. $8,271 was saved by the riders and 12,345 pounds of CO2 emissions were decreased.
