New Alternative Fuel Stations

WI CNG Station MapWith the opening of a new CNG station in De Pere at the DePere Superstore (1501 West Main Avenue) that is currently being used by WCTP partner, Paper Transport, we'd like to remind you to all stay updated using the AFDC Alternative Fueling Station LocatorNew alternative fuel stations are being created and opened very frequently in Wisconsin, due in part to all of our WCTP partners' success.  Due to the opening of new alternative fuel stations, you can now travel throughout much of the state to further the use of your alternative fuel vehicles, and increase your fuel savings and greenhouse gas reductions.

Don't Let High Gas Prices Bog You Down

It is looking to be a summer known for high gas and diesel prices.  In order to keep your fuel costs as low as possible, the WI Clean Transportation Program would like to give you a couple of driving tips to make sure you and your employees are driving as efficiently as possible.

  • Do not drive aggressively.  Rapid acceleration and braking frequently can decrease your fuel mileage by 33% on the highway and 5% in the city.
  •

  • Do obey the speed limit.  Gas mileage usually decreases at speeds over 60 mph.  It is estimated that for each 5 mph over 60 mph is like paying an additional $0.31 at the pump (based on a price of $3.87/gallon).
  •

  • Do not idle.  Idling can use a quarter to a half gallon of fuel per hour depending on engine size and if the AC is on.  The old myth that restarting your engine uses more gas than idling is false; starting your engine uses the same amount of fuel as if you were idling for 10 seconds.
  •

  • Do use cruise control.  In most cases, staying at a constant speed, especially on the highway, will save fuel.
  •

    Marshfield Utilities

In 2009 Marshfield Utilities, the utility provider for the city of Marshfield, became the state's first purchaser of a Odyne hybrid utility truck that reduces fuel costs by 50% or more.  Because of its many benefits for the utiliities, a second truck with a more advanced Odyne plug-in hybrid system was purchased using WCTP funding.  The truck was first delivered in December 2011, received software updates in March 2012, and was recently put into use by the utility company. Both units feature a Navistar chassis, Terex HRX55 booms and fiberglass bodies. The trucks are used for construction and maintenance of the Marshfield utility grid. Greg Geiger, Electric Operating Supervisor with Marshfield Utilities, summed up what he likesMarshfield Utilities about the Odyne hybrid trucks by saying, "Besides saving fuel, and therefore decreasing our carbon footprint, the biggest benefit has been for our guys working on the ground. There are no diesel fumes to breathe in and it's a nice quiet work environment to communicate in."
