Wine Knowledge...
What's hot?
Wines with a high or unbalanced alcohol level are often described as "hot." When the alcohol level is extremely high or out of balance with the rest of the wine, you may feel a heated or burning sensation in the back of the mouth.

Kind Words for The Mansion
Natalie and Mark's
May Wedding
"You and your staff couldn't have been more perfect, professional, attentive, or easy to deal with!! What a classy organization that you run. I knew this already but you all really brought it up to another level.
I don't have any feedback to provide that is constructive, only that you guys simply are the best. Nothing but the highest praises for you, [captains Michael and Ryan,] your wait staff, the chef and culinary crew, and the rest who were making things happen behind the scenes. Truly, you made my life so smooth during the chaos. Many thanks and much appreciation.
We will send pictures and of course, keep in touch!"

Dear Liz, I just wanted to thank you so much for putting on a phenomenal night for my group! You played such a huge part in the coordination of the night and I was very grateful to have you there. As far as the food, the meal was fantastic! The Chateaubriand was prepared to perfection and melted in my mouth. On top of that, the sauce complimented it very well and was quite tasty. When it came time to enjoy the Flourless Chocolate Cake, I was absolutely amazed. After eating it, I came to the conclusion that it had to be the best cake I've had in my life! Our staff easily agreed. I'm still thinking about it today and would definitely love to come back and have another piece. It was an all around great night! Thanks Wrigley!

addition comes from a winery passionate about celebrating life and fine wine, Gruet Winery! Gruet's legacy is a history of making great wine in unexpected locations...a second generation producer of world class wine. In 1993 the Gruet Family built their present facility in North Albuquerque, with state of the art equipment, which contributes to the continued success of Gruet Winery.
Our Wrigley Mansion Cuvee is made using the "Méthode Champenoise" with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes and it has a spare, crisp edge as mentioned in "Food & Wine Magazine." Gruet has been included in the top 100 wineries on "Wine Spectator." This wine is easy to drink and very food friendly.
In 2003, Gruet produced 75,000 cases of wine and distributed to 46 of the 50 states. Their strict dedication to the quality and strict adherence to the methods learned from Gilbert Gruet has guaranteed their wines a place in the landscape of great American wines.

Geordie Hormel and the Player Piano
|
There are many valuable treasures hidden within the Wrigley Mansion, but one piece is especially prized. The Duo-Art Reproducing Player Piano was custom made for William Wrigley Jr. in 1929, when the home was built. The walnut veneer case for the piano was made by Steinway even though Steinway rarely made player pianos. This piano was revolutionary because it was one of the first that was powered by electricity, could actually record music and it came equipped with one of the first remotes ever made. There are few of these pianos left in the world; one is on display at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C.
The Wrigley family was good friends with George Gershwin and they enjoyed the music he played for them on this piano during a winter visit. Mrs. Wrigley did not want him to leave because no one in the family knew how to play the piano and she would miss his music. So, she actually had George sit down at the piano and record ten songs for the family, including a unique version of his most popular song, "Rhapsody in Blue." In fact, Gershwin made all the scrolls for the Wrigley's player piano. Another colorful story that surrounds the piano is that Liberace desperately wanted the piano and gave the Wrigleys a blank check, but they did not want to sell.
This wonderful player piano still sits in the same room as it was originally and is played for most tour groups when visiting the mansion. The piano was a favorite of the late Wrigley Mansion owner, Geordie Hormel, a self-taught jazz musician. During many Sunday brunches Geordie would treat guests to impromptu concerts. He played a great variety, even some of the music he wrote for 1950s and '60s television shows, including The Untouchables, The Fugitive, The Naked City, Ozzie & Harriet and Lassie.
